Renault RS16 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That isn't the RS16 as presented today. I think it's not even an F1 car..

The central rear wing pillar is missing, is has a rear beam wing, it has gills in the side-pots, it has a shark fin, engine cover is too tight, and diffuser flaps too big.

I think that might be based on the 2008 Renault? But yeah, completely different car.

Yes that's one of their usual showcars, which is based on the R27 and R28...
Cockpit side protections are low like 2007 spec for example...

This part of the car is interesting. They appear to be paying particular attention to bisecting the normally singular laminar flow area of this portion of the rear sidepod, creating two separate pressure areas with a possible end game being to more efficiently feed the top of the center portion of the diffuser? So much is so it the case that the upper suspension wishbone appears at an odd angle so to clearly separate flow coming from the upper area which sees downwashing flow from the top of the sidepod.

Let's discuss rake when the car is on track. Not when it is set up to look pretty on pictures.

Is it me or does the whole front suspension geometry look high? The lower wishbones are half way up the wheel hub which means the airflow to the waist is unrestricted but makes the top half cluttered and the shark fins look Hugh maybe to control that turbulence?

Guys, again: this car

is not the RS16. It is a mock up of several past Enstone cars, dating as far back as 2007. It has been made the same livery for promotion.

This car
Image
is what Renault rubber stamped as the 2016 contender.

Gotta say, beautiful Frankensteins. A 2007 chassis without all those winglets and with a 2009-2013 rear wing with beam wing. And a 2015 chassis with a new livery

The Frankenstein car says R.E.16 on the top of the air box. Even Renault is confused as to what's what now...
