This suddenly brings up an interesting point about liveries.

The red on black theme was very much McLaren last year. With Red Bull going first with their reveals, what happens if, for example, McLaren's livery (minus the giant Bull) was virtually identical? Do teams have "back-up liveries" in case of a real embarrasing situation, or do the livery design teams for the various outfits actually check what everyone is doing to avoid it?

In the early 80's, McLaren and Alfa Romeo had very similar liveries too

In 86 Zakspeed, Mclaren, Lola, and Ferrari shared a lot of red paint too...i guess in that time red was comon, like black is now.

I disagree. The spotlights gave it a shine of blue, but if you look at the image I provided you can clearly see there is not a trace of blue to be found. You can make a case for very dark grey, but there's no more blue.

I've looked at a different screen just to be sure. The panels on the background are blue if that is what you mean . There is a very mild blue shine on the car on a few places, but that is reflection from the spotlights. I think it's best you focus on the sidepod.

I can be wrong of course, there's always that, although I am that confident I admittingly had to type that with a grin on my face. We probably will have to see for either studio pictures with white background, or for when testing begins.

At first glance I didn't much like the new look, but having let it sink in I think it's actually a really nice change.

The red in the Red Bull logo seems to really pop against the dark blue, and doing away with the white borders brings it up to date with current design trends.

I wouldn't mind seeing one or two more cars in matte paint as it'd provide a little more variety to an otherwise limited bunch of liveries.

Just compare nose tip (black carbon) and front wing flaps. They are not pure black for sure.
