Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

I wonder if Wazari was one of ex-Honda F1 Engineers involved in the the R&D Team that designed the best TC for the 2016 PU?

The board meeting last week was the end of Arai career(pretty much the retired ex-Honda F1 Engineers passed their views that he was the wrong man in the lead)

^^^ Its amazing how naïve we can be if someone keeps on telling us what we would like to hear. Especially when "questions are answered without really answering, backed up by an "exclusive" "understanding"from the "inside". :?:

I'm lost in the huge mess formed by official statement, insider info and pure speculation: can someone tell me what's up with this "rogue team of old guys" story? :?

EDIT: Goodbye Wazari, I don't know 100% sure if you are who you really said to be 'cause you know, it's the internet, but I must admit most of the stuff you said were if not actual facts somehow really close to the truth.

I wont say Arai was the wrong man. I think he would have been put aside even if he was working miracles. From what i understand it was just a matter of him reaching 60 years old. He seems to be grateful for the chance to lead, and is gracious in handing over.
Initially i would have thought honda just got fed up with him, but that's not the case here it seems.
For Sure!!

They would of waited until end of season if the true reason of his retirement was his age. THAT WASN'T THE REASON.

There are things I know for sure and some things I think I know.

IMO, this move is a good thing. This was not a last minute decision. I have respect for both Arai-san and Hasegawa-san. Hasegawa-san is very capable. Arai-san and Hasegawa-san were both considered to head the F1 program but it was ultimately decided to be Arai-san by the former president. I would consider latest move a resignation and not a firing.

It is my understanding that "Mark 1 engines version a and b will be tested now." 'Mark 2 engines version a and b" will be tested at the next session. Primary differences are with the ICE and turbine and compressor combinations.

There were three teams working to come up with different solutions for 2016. I think the word "rogue" is too strong. Nothing was secret and one team did have more "senior" engineers and staff. This was the geriatric gang. :) .

This move is not a surprise. This transition was planned in advance and McLaren was well aware in advance. Hasegawa-san and Arai-san have very different personalities. I know Hasegawa-san much better than Arai-san and he should thrive in this situation.

I will still visit this forum and please feel free to continue to PM me. I will try and answer promptly but will be away from my PC quite a bit in the future. I enjoy answering your questions from Honda's past working experiences to what turbo you should run for your Civic street car...

I, and I'm certain I speak for most members here, appreciated your insights and input and they will be badly missed.

If you can speak one more time on the PU front, what is the new engine philosophy that Fernando spoke of??

Aren't people confusing a select group of blue sky thinkers, with an entire engineering team?

Thank you Wazari San,

I have looked to your posts for clarification and confirmation of various theories that have been voiced both on here and other internet F1 websites.

Your answers and insights have been a joy to read and have given us all a small window into the inner workings and culture of Honda as well as providing an invaluable source of expert knowledge from a former F1 engineer with his finger still on the pulse of this fast paced sport that we all love so much.

Your contributions will be sorely missed by many and I wish you every happiness in your future.
