Yeh, the clock started ticking on elimination before they had even finished their first lap. You simply have no time at all to do a second run if you make a mistake, or even if you're just 0.001 slow.

It means we get no anticipation of people managing to correct a slightly slow lap.

No chaos, no cars on track, no nothing.

This format sucks.

So, 6 minutes to the end of the session, and it appears that pole is decided.

That was about as much of an anticlimax as we could ever have had.

I bet whoever cooked up this qualifying scheme is feeling pretty dumb right now...

Mercedes still has 0.8s over Ferrari. Surprise...

2:30 left on the clock, and 0 cars on track, 0 cars planning on going out again.

This qualifying system is AMAZING!

Oh wait... no...

I liked how 1st and 2nd segment went, but 3rd must obviously be changed.

Q1 and Q3 didn't work either. The slowest 4 or 5 cars in each session don't get a chance to run again, simply because they can't turn the car around fast enough.

At first I thought they had to remain on track but I think this is incorrect. I guess we will have to wait for the full rules to be sure.
Once they set a time they can sit in the garage, the only difference is that after a certain time if they have the slowest time they are knocked out rather than being able to set another time. We're going to see a lot less action than how it is currently.
Just to bump what I posted two weeks ago. If this isn't --- canned I am not going to go out of my way to watch F1 on Saturdays and certainly not dragging my arse out of bed at 5.45 again.

That was one of the most boring qualifying sessions I have ever seen. I don't think Ferrari are actually .8 off the pace, but if you know you are not going to be on pole, and at worst 3rd, why put another lap in? .8 off the pace and 3rd or .4 off the pace and 3rd still starts you in the same position.

Ricciardo had the clock ticking on him in Q3 before the outlap was even finished.

I hope they get rid of this before the next grand Prix. Incredibly stupid.

no problem with the format IMO, they should give everyone 3 sets of extra tyres for qualy alone. that should solve the probelm

I quite like how Q1 worked with this system, but Q2 didn't work and Q3 was a complete failure. Work certainly needs doing, maybe they should concentrate on the main event now?
