How would new tyres make this:
90 seconds to get from the box to the start/finish line
90 seconds to do your lap
90 seconds to get back to the pits
90 seconds to refuel the car
90 seconds to do an out lap
90 seconds to do another lap
===
9 minutes total

Take less than the 7/6/5 minutes you have before you get eliminated?

And that's on a short track that only takes 90 seconds to get round. Come silverstone/Spa where it takes 2 minutes, that'll be much worse.

Just revert to old system, or at least leave Q3 as it was before.

At spa, this would happen instead:

120 seconds to get from the box to the start/finish line
100 seconds to do your lap
120 seconds to get back to the pits
90 seconds to refuel the car
120 seconds to do an out lap
100 seconds to do another lap
===
10 minutes 50 seconds total.

That means that in Q3, no one below 4th on the first run can do a second run.

What an unmitigated disaster this format is...

All it can ensure is that if a driver is unable to run because of a small problem with the car which can be fixed in a few minutes, he's fvcked.

I hope they have the common sense to outright scrap this format(doubtful). I wanted to see cars fight for pole in the last minute, instead we watched people get out of the car with over 3 minutes on the clock, including the polesitter.

Well done idiots.

Only way for this to work would be giving them harder tyres and imposing stint/fuel/timed lap minimum. Like when you get knocked out earlier you should have enough fuel in tank like you intended to run to the end of session. But that should be incredibly hard to govern..

They should just return to one timed lap for everyone like we had some time in 00s.

Q1 was weird with teams not timing it right, Gutierrez actually made a good lap that didn't count... a lot of guys doing an outlap and going back in because there was no time...
Q2 already showed it's failures, 2 minutes from the it was over.
Q3 was just a disaster, you can't do an inlap and an outlap before you are eliminated.

So my suspicions confirmed. Terrible idea. Q1 was like hmmm ok. Give it time seems OK, maybe it's just the teams shooting themselves in their own foot. But after that it was terrible. Seems team principles are unanimous in it being a pile of sh**.

Faster cars can do a few laps and get through even with fuel penalty. Slower cars have to run 1 lap fuel. And then pit. But no time to do this.

They tried they failed. Just hope they change it and realize their mistake.

What I find sad is that most people are being so negative towards this idea (without having experienced the reality of the change), to such an extent that when someone has a positive outlook people assume he's being sarcastic. #-o

But only if they all cross the line at the same time. With 5 second gaps only the top 3 might run again.

Never mind, this is the one and only time we will see this omnishambles.

Sadly, we didnt *get it*. The above is the best example of the new system working *as intended*. The aim was not to create a fair system that puts the fastest on the front row and the slowest - it was precisely to create mayhem in the sense that faster cars get eliminated to create a more interesting race.

As much asi hate it, it seems even Australia, despite the anti climax in Q3 delivered somewhat: Haas got eliminated too quick, so these are two of the faster cars out of position. So are arguably the McLaren. And the Ferraris used a set of SS less by only doing one run in Q3...
