Where will FA end up??

Post

Rumour mill today (and yesterday) is that an announcement is to be made today and could feature FA going to Williams.

What's not so clear is what that would mean for Nico. Would they be team mates or swap seats, Nico going to McLaren (despite Rosberg Snr) not wanting Nico to go there and play second fiddle to Lewis.

We shall see...let the musical chairs begin :D

Today it looks quite oficial, in spanish press they're quoting his manager saying that he's leaving.

Yesterday, in a big Argentinian newspaper, there was an article that assured that FA will go to red bull. It said that Dieter have the money, a good chassis designer (Newey) and a good engine and that has potential for growth.

I personally think thats BS.

IF Nico goes Mclaren, beleive me, he will not play second fiddle ;-)

He has easily been driver of the season this year, and is easily a match for Lewis.

Also

Just confirmed on Autosport that Alonso and Mclaren part.

He is off to Renault. Swapping with Kovalainen. At least that is the feeling I get reading quotes from him.

McLaren's website has locked up.

If he's off he's gone even further down in my estimations. what a chicken & its now blatant he cant take being beaten - a very sorry state of affairs - my respect for his is gone!

Red Bull would be my shout due to renault engine link - Williams, well... Im not sure - exciting times for us fans :) sad times for Alonso whos fanbase has evaporated.

FERNANDO ALONSO AND VODAFONE McLAREN MERCEDES AGREE TO MOVE ON - 2 November 2007
Woking, 2nd November 2007: Following a meeting between Fernando Alonso and McLaren, it was agreed that it would be in the best interests of both parties to bring the relationship to an end.

The mutual parting of ways has not been discussed until now, since it was felt that any such discussion could have seriously disrupted the team’s and Fernando’s 2007 Formula 1 World Championship challenge. Both parties believe that this was the right decision.

FERNANDO ALONSO:
“Since I was a boy I had always wanted to drive for McLaren, but sometimes in life things do not work out. I continue to believe that McLaren is a great team. Yes, we have had our ups and downs during the season, which has made it extra-challenging for all of us, and it is not a secret that I never really felt at home. I know there have been suggestions of favouritism within the team and people say a lot of things in the heat of battle, but in the end I was always provided with an equal opportunity to win. Today’s decision allows all of us to focus on 2008, and I wish the team, Vodafone, Banco Santander, Mutua Madrileña and all the other team Partners who I have worked closely with during the year, the best for the future.”

RON DENNIS:
“Everybody at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, especially McLaren’s Spanish Partners Banco Santander and Mutua Madrileña and the team’s title partner Vodafone, want to wish Fernando all the best for the future. He is a great driver but for some reason the combination of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes and Fernando has not really worked out, and in the end we reached a stage where none of us could find a way to move forward. We all believe that our joint decision to part company is for the best, and we will now continue to focus on our 2008 World Championship challenge.”

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes will announce any additions to its existing driver line-up in due course.

I doubt that. Perhaps within the UK it has but they've probably jumped ship to Hamilton.
I bet he's still as popular as ever in Spain.

Well yes, most of u agree either Red Bull or Renault, and yes, RB has Newey and renualt and the money, but their reliability sucks, and I don't think that's a problem they will fix in this season.
Renault would be okay, but still it is a question wheter they will have a car that delivers next season.
IMO all the options are interesting yet non of them offers a true championship winning car which me as an Alonso fan, think is quite sad. But oh well.

Toyota signed Trulli and Glock for 2008 but... they have a contract dispute with BMW on Glock, and it's ' not that clear ' with Jarno.

I'd really like to see how Alonso does in Williams... I mean the psychological perspective 8)

Much as I'd like to see 2 top drivers at Williams. I can't see Sir Frank wanting to shell out on FA...but then it depends what Alonso wants.

Does he race for money or for the glory? If it's glory then on this years evidence, Williams are better than RB....but I expect RB to be much more competative and reliable next year (Geoff is sorting the reliability whilst Newey focusses on performance).

If it's for money then RedBull are the only option. IF there is a clause about not driving for other car manufacturers. I assume DC will be kicked out of RB and I think that would be a real kick in the teeth for him - he's responsible for a lot of the teams development, on and off the track. But I expect they'd find him a seat...maybe even pay Williams to have him??!!....you never know in this crazy world!
