News reports are now saying there is no clause stopping him signing for ANY team.

Renault are wide open for him - they love him, but something made him leave before.....It would mean the end of GF's career.

Any other team would be problematic.

If RB wants to take him, it will be a very interesting situation........DC is the guy who has actually built the team....and FA would definetley want the team around him.......and I think it wud be unwise to let DC go after all he has done for the team.....which leaves me to wonder that Mark might actually end up with Renault....with a chance at the title!!!

If Fernando really wants to be BIG in this sport, he should move to Toyota, there is money and (I think) some victory hunger, he can get the team work arround him as he likes and show the world that Toyota wins because of him.

It would be a similar situation as Michael in Ferrari in 1996. Thats a thing that would motivate a real winning machine.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, so thanks for having me.

I gotta think Alonso wants to be back with Renault. He already knows much of the team there and he won't have to adjust. I think Heikki to McLaren and then Piquet, Jr. will be the rookie challenging Alonso within the same team.

"I have some idea of what I want to do, a plan or a hope," he told Spain's Telecinco at the weekend. "I know what I'd like to do next year but I don't know if it's possible."
That's sounds like he's thinking pretty ambitiously to me. It sounds like Toyota, I can see them paying top dollar, especially after how much they payed Ralf Schumacher for zero performance. Toyota know that they will at least get an incredible driver.
I love to love Senna.

Im thinking a straight swap with Sato! Then AD can beat him too! lol

Ok maybe not ;)

The more I think about it, Its so gotta be Red Bull, Webber gets the move to where he should have been before the ill fated Williams move, ie Renault - Heikki appears next to LH.

Easy! & Im sure FB will earn a few quid too!

Must have been a serious breakdown for Ron to just let him go tho - I was expecting the CRB to be involved to be honest, hey ho

Renault seems the "obvious" choice, but Toyota would be really interesting. He can team up w/ Trulli again

It's funny, no one has considered Ferrari. At present, they have not announced next year's drivers, although both Kimi and Massa have contracts.
I cannot see Alonso in Williams for a few reasons. Sir Frank is reluctant to pay any driver a lot, especially in thewir present financial situation. As well, Sir Frank prefers drivers with little emotional baggage. Alonso would wilt like a dry plant at Williams. As well, they cannot offer a competitive future, despite a great history.
If Alonso goes to Toyota, he will have to have things his way, as mentioned, most likely similar to MIchael's situation when he went with Ferrari. Namely, to have the team built around you, as well as the cars. Toyota corporate policy may be against surrendering so much to one driver.
Renault may not be willing to pay what Alonso expects, it's that simple.
That leaves Red Bull, who have both the money and a great future ahead in the next few years.
Personally, I expect Alonso to go to Ferrari or Red Bull.

Why would Ferrari have to announce their race driver line-up for the upcoming season when both Kimi and Felipe have contracts up until '09 and '10? There is no race seat available at Ferrari until the '10 season, because Kimi's expires at the end of '09. Therefore negating the possibility of Fernando driving a Ferrari next season. It's common knowledge that Kimi and Felipe will driver together for the next two seasons, at least.

It's possible that many people took di Montezemolo's praise for Fernando a bit too seriously, as it was not in the similar fashion to the praise by Todt & Co for Kimi back in the day.

I think is Better to run his own team and drive for it , like Bruce Mc Laren did . Of course this is too idealistic , but Alonso has a strong character and it is hard to accept others people rules ........ a joke or a possible reality in the future :?:
Remember that Villeneuve was a partial owner of BAR in the past (2000-2001) and F1 is possible to become even friendlier to lower budget teams :!:

I would really like to see the full potential of Kovalainen in next year's Renault. I wish Alonso would not destroy Heikki's (presumably) big chance.
Also, if Kovalainen heads to McLaren - he'll be damn good, but Lewis will have the better of him knowing their system much better. Leave the traditionall equal treatment in McLaren - it's Hamilton's team, he's their kid. period.

So I hope Alonso moves to Red Bull or Williams. That will be mega.

The "Mole" of

grandprix.com does a sort of a summary of the situation as it is now. (The Future of Fernando Alonso) He might still be off to Toyota, after all. In addition to what the "Mole" writes, I'd like to note that there's another kind of waiting game that will affect Alonso's considerations, too: No-one's said anything about Ross Brawn yet. Rumours (and don't expect me to back this up, it's highly unreliable) are that he has been clearing his apartment in Italy. If he doesn't continue with Ferrari, Alonso might well be inclined to follow him into some other team. Supposing that Brawn will work for another F1 team after Ferrari, something that might not happen, of course. Toyota and RBR certainly have the resources to hire both - i.e. "Motorsport is expensive. How fast do you want to go?" (though while at Ferrari, it was Brawn who made a point of saying that Alonso didn't feature in their post-Schumacher considerations while Todt and Montezemolo have been more charitable with regard to him).
