Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

in fp3 or Q alonso was saying that drivability is good (via McLaren live) so no need to change that, only understeer is the problem.

The power unit has a big influence on breaking.

I guess the update = no tokens used or penalties? i.e. they get to show FIA "Look we need these changes"?

The new engine is coming, but it will not be a revolution," team boss Boullier is quoted by Italy's Autosprint.

Semantically speaking you end up where you started if you go through a revolution. Anyway, getting more fuel efficiency for them would be a huge step forward in my opinion. As it is, they start the race about 2 seconds off the pace, and end the races around a second off the pace more or less. If they could maintain being one second off the pace all race long instead of towards the end, they would finish higher up, they'd be at least as fast as Williams or TR.

I would hope so, since fuel efficiency gains directly equate to more power.

We know it's not a revolution because of token limitations.

If i read that correctly they still haven't decided yet. So we still have to wait for official confirmation

Even just a 1% improvement or a 10% improvement we still need to use the same tokens, so in that case we would want to choose the 10% upgrade.”
10%? They would leapfrog the Merc PU!

Unfortunately they are of course arbitrary numbers.

No, they would still be 10hp behind...

It would be good to get the Honda PU in another car rather than just Mclaren. Really difficult to judge where it sits against the competition and would surely help Honda develop the PU by doubling the number of miles it does each season.

I don't think that is needed. It is pretty obvious the Honda lump is the worst of the bunch. It's made huge strides over last year, but still down a bit on power over a range of fuel settings.

Once Honda produces a top PU, the car will probably be nipping at Ferrari, fighting with Williams.

Disagree. In 2014, the first year of the current regs Mclaren had the best PU and were nowhere. In monaco the track least affected by the PU, Mclaren were nearly 2 seconds behind pole.

Can we really say that the Honda PU is demonstrably worse than say Renault?

But even so, doubling the mileage for the PUs each weekend would surely aid development?
