They don't tend to saved Fuel in the first 5 or 6 laps. They start when everyone has established their positions. From what I can tell they setup the car to run at a given pace (you can even see it in FP with the long runs). on a "normal weekend", as Fernado would say, race day pace is right in line with FP long runs (typically FP2). To be honest I haven't seen much power saving in the last few races either. I though I saw it today ( his pace dropped significantly on a few occasions) but it turned out to be Battery problems.mrluke wrote:If Honda had a major problem with fuel consumption then Mclaren would struggle the most at the start of the GP and be on the pace by the end because every race the Mclaren would be brimmed while the other teams would not need to take a full tank.CjC wrote: I agree about the PU. It's common knowledge that Honda have work to do, it's also been acknowledged that they dont that that ignition chamber thing and I'm sure that's what they are working on next.
For me, you could see that Button would sit behind the Sauber of Nasr in normal conditions but then when the team said to all out attack ie. Turn the PU up and not to worry about fuel usage he breezed past the Sauber.
Honda and Mclarens major weakness of a weekend is fuel usage unfortunately and in the incremental steps Honda take, fuel consumption will be next in the list to tick off before out and out power, this is after they rectified last seasons major weakness- reliability.
Honda ARE getting there and WILL get there it just takes time.
In 2018 it will be a peach of a motor.
This should also mean that McLaren would qualify really well and then fall back in the race.

From what i saw the Car is very good on the Brakes, but the lack of outright ICE Power still hurts. Both Chassis and Engine get better with every Race though.

Mediocre? How is that when he managed to be only two positions and 3 seconds behind Button despite Button´s P3 grid position and Alonso´s p14?Vasconia wrote:Alonso had a quite mediocre race which sadly ended with yet another DNF.
i agree, Fernando's pace was quite good considering ers problems...and Hasegawa confirmed that problem was worse and worse as race progressed.Andres125sx wrote:Mediocre? Then SC came out and McLaren had to do a double pitstop wich obviously harmed Alonso, he dropped two positions again (p9 and p11 before pitstop, p9 and p13 after)
It´s been an unlucky weekend for Alonso, first in qualifying McLaren made a costly mistake in Q2 fitting used tires in his first attempt, and second was ruined by Sainz´s yellow flag wich prevented anyone from improving laptimes. Then in the race he was performing a great recovery until Button´s track position and SC made him drop back again, then the retirement.
I´d say that´s far from a mediocre race, he was doing great but he´s been unlucky the whole weekend
This is not very congruent with what you wrote on Austrian GP threadGoranF1 wrote:i agree, Fernando's pace was quite good considering ers problems...and Hasegawa confirmed that problem was worse and worse as race progressed.Andres125sx wrote:Mediocre? In low DF circuits like Canada and Austria Button always nails his setup and even whitout Alonso problems i think Button would be hard to beat but next few races Alonso will be a beast.
And that´s not your first post on race threads similar to this, I once read a very similar post after qualifying (can´t remember what GP) when he didn´t perform, but later on suday he did an awesome race, and I was tempted to reply, but didn´t.GoranF1 wrote:Is Alonso "dead"...has is time passed?

You are right Andres, I underestimaded Alonso´s problems during the race, thinking incorrectly that the reason of his DNF was a problem which appared suddenly.Andres125sx wrote:Mediocre?
