I think that's a pretty safe bet. 8)
I wouldn't expect the DRL to look the same but maybe the other components will be carry over. I suppose we'll see when they eventually style them

The design is now fixed bar a few details and it is due to run, according to Dave King, Aston’s vice-president and special operations manager, who is charged with building it, at the end of next year, with the first customer deliveries in 2019.
So the car is only going to have it's first run at the end of next year.....2017. With Deliveries almost 2 years later....hmmmm

You said it yourself. Design is fixed. That means the program is at least a year old, thanks for making my point even more clear.

Cars like this exist in computers years before a public showing. What's so hard to understand about that?

Another forum member recently quoted Horner saying the program is 18 months old.

Prototype fabrication can take 6-8months for a rough build and as more and more parts are refined they won't have something running that represents final build until, wait for it, like you said "the end of next year."

Some of the car at that point will be made of parts from actual vendors who are perfecting manufActuring processes for production parts AND some of the parts at that point will still be prototype parts made in a facility owned/contracted by AM/RB or a future vendor. Once all parts pass engineering and performance/reliability tests they will then transition to the manufacturing phase. This leads us to the 2018 delivery date.

This is actually a fast process since these cars will be low volume.

but let's cut to the chase. You think the program started in mid-March 2016, because that's when the press release happened. Confirm or deny?

To me, that statement doesn't really compute. "The design is now fixed bar a few details," but only due to run at the end of next year?

Either the "few details" are extremely important or that statement is slightly disingenuous. Sounds like they know what they want to achieve in theory, but have not found practical ways of implementing them.

Which leaves me with the same impression I had before, and has already been confirmed with their reduced lap-time targets; say one thing, eventually do another, but sell a great story along the way.

You going to hold me on a technicality, when the car is going to run until late 2017 at the earliest?

That's just laughable. I've entertained you wayyyyyy more than I should, it's good sport! But now the facts have come out, and with you bleating that a running prototype would be present at Goodwood , it appears your assessments are overestimated and you are just resorting to nit-picking to validate your falsehoods.

The facts.

The car does not have a finalised engine(other than.....V12! \:D/ )
The car has not run at all, and will not run until late 2017!
All we have is a design concept.

This all ties in with my own and other assessments that this car is still in utero, and will remain so for a fairly long gestation period.

I don't wanna beat down on you too badly, cos I admire your optimism. I dislike your BS though.
I mean, I went to goodwood half expecting this thing on your say so, in spite of my better judgement. I did get to hear a gorgeous BMW straight six, a Pagani Zonda(read....real hypercar), a Rosberg burnout, and Brundle in a Brawn.

There were no unicorns from AM-RB though, in spite of when a press release intimates to when a car was put into development.

Who cares when the project started? The thing is, there's people that defended with their lives the statement that this car would be faster than a Formula One car, even though they didn't have any proof or knowledge to say it apart from their faith on the magician Adrian Newey, and now they start knitpicking on other people's possible wrong statements to "justify one mistake with another".
Can we get back to the technical bit of the technical forum now?

Can we please move on from when the project started or not? Whether or not this proves it's nothing more then a concept is kind of ramming the topic in the wall. Yes, they surely will not have showed everything, and at the same time the 'concept' showed more then enough to have an idea what they are aiming for.

Maybe we can focus on what is being shown and what they are possibly not showing? Like...

Didn't they just say 5.2 L, NA, but somehow nothing related to their current 5.2 L?

I guess it has to be very high revving to get to their power requirements. Won't that require a lot of cooling? There's no front radiator, though, and no visible cooling vents anywhere. I've been a believer in Newey and this car, but I don't see how this thing is going to work as presented.
