The Race for the Second Mclaren Seat

Post

Some times you will read something in the mornings that will brighten up your day. This is mine!

http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/news/2007/11/ ... aren-seat/

I mean Really, has nobody told him that he blew his chances at a good racing seat by sucking and not trying for the last 2 years?

So come on who's your money on?

I would love to see button in the second seat but that will not happen, Rosberg is out, Somethings telling me it going to be Hekki.
I believe in the chain of command, Its the chain I use to beat you till you do what i want!!!

My gut is saying De La Rosa
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

I think De la Rosa or Davidson would be best for the job. They seem to want Kovy for some reason though. Maybe they feel incomplete without a finn in one of the cockpits?

PS:

@ Ralf Schumacher

I'd like a McLaren seat too :!: :D

Pedro is good but he's only ever going to be a number 2/3.
Heikki is an =1 and that's what McLaren apparrently want...

Assuming Alonso gets on with signing for Renault I will expect Heikki to be at McLaren.

I bet Ron Dennis had been awake for weeks worrying that Ralf could get signed by someone else and that McLaren may miss the boat!

why do you guys think ralf is that bad , that means the six Gps that he won was a fluke , i think he is good may be he is demoralised with the toyota way , i felt really sorry when ralf was getting screwed by the media and others in the paddock , i actually dont know whats has really happen to him , he deserves one more chance , for the six Gps he won atleast . I dont know if he would get a mclaren seat , but i will it will nice if they put him in a fast car .

He was a good driver, and there is some skill there. BUT and its a Big but, Since he has been a Toyota Trulli has out performed him in the same equipment nearly every race. He Spent most of this year falling out of Qualy 1, when his team mate would make it into the Qualy 3. Mike Gasgoine Apparently said he would leave if Ralf went to Force India. He Got paid a Sickening amount of money to do more or less nothing the the last few years. Claiming your the 3rd best driver on the Grid then having such a poor season really does not help your case ether.
I know he is better than some of the driver out there and i know he has got skill when he wants to. But he has not helped himself the last few years and is now suffering for it. He needs to go to a lesser team and show he is hungry again, thats the only way he will get respect back.

That's really one

of the toughest questions. The more I look at the drivers who are under contract, the less it all makes sense. It's easy to see why some think nothing's for certain. Some have suggested that there are questions about Massa at Ferrari, but with his performance and all the other changes within the team, I don't think so. BMW were pretty emphatic about signing their drivers early on and have a culture that enforces loyalty on all levels, not honoring a contract would undermine that badly.

At Williams, Nakajima is secure. Nico has stated time and again that he will stay and Frank has said he'll keep him at any cost - the conspiracy theory there being that it's all too convincing to be true. I don't think Rosberg is McLaren's first choice, though - two young ambitious drivers who have dads for managers isn't the obvious choice to ensure Ron's planned retirement triumphs happening. Some have also suggested that Trulli wouldn't be safe at Toyota, but as the team fought hard for Glock, I kinda doubt they'd want to take on an unknown factor as a rookie's team mate, no matter who that might be.

STR is an unknown factor for a number of reasons: continued rumours that the team will be sold, Vettel still rookie-ish but very likely to move on up soon (but not soon enough for McLaren perhaps, nor the perfect pairing for Hamilton, perhaps) and Bourdais just learning the ropes. Honda have confirmed Button and Barrichello; my theory is simply that had Button had a chance to go to Macca, he'd have been there already. The presence of Brawn at the team will encourage both drivers to stay on, for different reasons. At least they will get a baseline to evaluate their performance after 2007 by keeping their drivers for one more year.

Super Aguri is strapped for cash, which is strange given their cheerful image and fairly high profile. I don't know if there'd be a profit involved for them in letting Davidson go to McLaren, propably not. Force India, if Mallya really is willing to put his money where his mouth is, is in the market for driving, rather than paying, talent so no help there.

That leaves RBR and Renault. Coulthard is going to ride his F1 career out there, a return to McLaren under these (or pretty much any) circumstances is quite unthinkable. Renault is in a pickle, big time, and they must have contingency plans (with a helping hand from Bernie, no doubt) ... the one concerning the worst case scenario (being booted out of the championship) might involve Mecachrome and possibly one David Richards. That would niftily leave yet another team slot to be sold for the next billionaire on the lookout for a fun pastime.

It's a long shot, of course, but Renault's immediate post-penalty reincarnation in 2008 could actually be Prodrive-Mecachrome then, a team with little to no capacity to take on Alonso, even if the team is really just rebranded lock, stock & barrel. In this case I guess they'd try and continue with Heikki and Piquet. And frankly, Alonso wouldn't be shopping for a contract lasting for a single year unless he had serious Ferrari ambitions.

And the team willing to accommodate for this, perhaps? RBR, in which case Coulthard or Webber have to reconsider their futures. David might just retire, sure, but given Webber's experience, no-nonsense attitude, levelheadedness, dependability - all of which might reflect well on Hamilton and the team in general - McLaren IMHO is well advised to consider Mark. Another thing altogether whether he'd really want to go there.

Lewis has been boasting about being the "senior" driver within McLaren now. He's fast, talented, but I doubt he's ready to assume that position yet. Mclaren will be hard pressed, even with good money (with Hamilton and all the ongoing FIA scrutinies) to attract the sorts of drivers they really need. So if they're very lucky, they'll get Webber (or someone with similarly positive attributes). More likely they'll have to settle for what they've got, de la Rosa propably at the forefront of those options.

But would I bet money on this? Nope.

I think Paffet might have a shot at the seat, only because I'm uncertain about Kovalinen' and Roseburg's contract situations, what about Mark Webber? Maybe, but not Button, not in '08.

With all the money Ralf earned last year and all the money Mclaren lost do you think he could pay for a seat?

De La Rosa: “My dream has always been to race and, naturally, it is that possibility that keeps me going as a test driver,” added the Spaniard. “I’ll try, of course I will.”. I imagine he will be sending copies of all e-mails to Dennis from now on... :)

Sutil: "I would love to be driving with Lewis again. Maybe some time in the future. But next year would be good."

Schumacher (as Sawtooth Spike told us): “It's no secret that the seat at McLaren-Mercedes is by far the most coveted there is,” Schumacher told Bild am Sonntag newspaper. “Every driver out there in the market would love to sit in their super car.”

The 32-year-old Schumacher said, however, there had been no contact with McLaren “so far”, adding that he felt he was good enough to challenge and even beat McLaren's Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton: "Formula One star Lewis Hamilton insists he wants to stay with McLaren for life. The 22-year-old narrowly missed out on the driver's championship in his first full season." It seems to me that he has forgot his previous comments (at the beginning of the year) that went like that: "The things I can learn from Alonso are endless." Well, Alonso was thrown out. ;)

Besides, Lewis said: "Asked who would drive alongside him next year Hamilton said: `[Nico] Rosberg, [Adrian] Sutil or [Heikki] Kovalainen. The most important thing is that he is a team player.´”

Withmarsh (months ago): "... Withmarsh has insisted that his team are not rushing, or going to be rushed, into choosing a driver for their currently vacant seat now Fernando Alonso has left. Whitmarsh admitted they had a shortlist of drivers. Lewis Hamilton said wants a team player, and dropped out a few names including Nico Rosberg, Heikki Kovalainen and Adrian Sutil. Ralf Schumacher has apparently expressed his interest in the seat, but McLaren informed him that he was not on their shortlist of drivers."

It seems that the only one that hasn't spoke about how badly he wants the seat is Kovalainen.... that puts him first in my list.

from my knowledge ralf has out perform trulli every season since 2005 when they both join toyota
this year however the team and ralf all been saying the same thing that the car doesn't suit his style and that is the main reason why he is slow

but look at his good races since joining toyota like hungary 2005 chasin down his older brother michael and spa 2005 he could have won the race if the team hasn't chose to gamble on the dry tyres and 2006 malaysia from the back of the grid to 8th

true that his hasn't been as good as michael but let be fair to him, toyota has been havin any championship winning cars

trulli is also more of a qualifying driver, most of the times he can make it to Q3 but couldn't make it to P10 at the end of the race
considering the performance of trulli compare to alonso at the reault days and think ralf is quiet genuine when he said that he is the 3rd fastest driver on the gird and that i would love to see what he can do in a mclaren mayb mclaren and get ralf to pay them for a seat for a year than think about a contract later
