Jenson Button has had to have new power unit components fitted to his McLaren-Honda ahead of the German Grand Prix.

The Briton, who qualified 12th after some troubled practice sessions, has had a new energy store and new control electronics fitted after qualifying.

These are the fourth elements of the season, and it means both he and Fernando Alonso now have one full new power unit remaining for the rest of the campaign.
Penalties coming soon :( :( :(

While McLaren's recent pace is wonderful, it's concerning that they are potentially losing an advantage on the 2017 car by continuing to develop this one so intensely.

I'm not sure where i read this, but I read that Alonso said that Vettel didn't hold him up that much and that even without Vettel he wouldn't have gotten to Q3

Well i expected a worse showing on a Track that doesn't suit the Car. Good Race from Jenson and Fernando. But what happened to Fernando in the last 5 Laps? He lost like 10 seconds to Button and 2 Positions. To me it looked as if his Tires were completely gone, on sky they were talking about Fuel saving. Dunno if true. Honda has made great strides, but clearly efficiency is still an issue.

Onwards and Upwards..... =D>

Edit: Seems like they really were on the Edge with Fernandos Fuel:

Who cares? the evolution is being pretty fine. I wanst expecting such a good performance on this track. Now I am curious to see what happens in Spa and Monza, which are, by far, the worst ones. for McLaren.

Nice though that they're still 'coming soon' at this point last year Mclaren were already well over their allocation on every power train component and racking up silly amounts of penalties.

Jenson:
In fact, I went off the circuit towards the end, just because I was doing so much fuel-saving that I hit the brakes and they were just stone cold. I hadn’t even been braking hard.

It's bad in itself. We all know there are several areas to improve an fuel consumption is just one of them. But the end result is what you said: better than expected on a circuit the doesn't suit the car. As a MCL fan I'm quite happy. I think we jumped TR/WIL, that's quite some progress.

Hopefully during the break they can review the various races and see what they can do to make the engine more efficient etc

But its good they are eaking out points, but some bad races to come from them. Williams and Ferrari seem in a bit of turmoil, not much updates on TR so with a bit of luck they might get some more in the bad races like Spa.

The danger seems FI who can keep a ok pace at the end of the race when McLaren can seem slow due to fuel saving.

They have the advantage of having the merc engine there.
