New ad experiments

Post

All,
We're experimenting a bit with a new ad provider. Positioning and ad sizes should remain intact.

However, if you find strange things, or inappropriate ads, please let me know (with a screenshot preferably).

Thanks

Oui monsieur ! Will keep an eye. Thanks for the heads up.

I use ad-block. How does this affect me?

Thanks than for using this site and denying us the income we need to pay for hosting, domains, designs etc

It would be very kind if you'd whitelist f1technical. We take care not to push annoying ads.
I'm sure members not using adblock can confirm this.

I only just realised there were advertising at the bottom of the page #-o . I can confirm no annoying adds.

While I have been aware of them, they are so unobtrusive they don't bother me.

I have an ad blocker too and as an experiment turned it off for F1 technical and I can confirm that the ads are not intrusive at all so F1 Technical is now whitelisted.

Another forum I have used in the past have totally ruined the site by having ads at the top in the middle and at thebottom of pages, this is what prompted my instalation of an ad blocker, with some ads being video adverts that cause the web page to re-render when it loads the video so the webpage jumps around, thay have now stopped people with adblockers from viewing the forum all together unless they pay for membership to remove the ads!!!

As a website owner I realise the importance of generating an income to offset the running costs and believe that F1 Technical have struck the right balance.

Thanks nevill3.

The thing is, we have tried native ads like what is used on autosport these days, but feedback from various members was that from time to time, the suggested "related items" were rather pornographic. Knowing how many people view f1technical from work, that's obviously not an option.

Pushing annoying ads down the throats will turn people off, so we try to do it in a reasonable way.

In any case, again, if any of you see annoying changes that you think are incorrect or unacceptable, do let us know ;)

I have never, in over a dozen years, found the adverts on f1technical obtrusive. They never detract from enjoying what is an excellent service.

The new ad provider is using multiple App Store redirects on the iPhone

Banner ads are fine but opening the App Store and taking me away from F1T to an app where I can download William Hill Betting App or whatever, is a right royal pain in the proverbial.

I keep getting ads that appear taking over the entire screen when on mobile. Have to kill the window as the back button causes the page to reload. Repeatedly hammering the back button doesn't work.

I can't actually say what it was about but obviously spam.

I've been getting these full page redirects too. Very annoying and have made me consider leaving the forum. The usual ads are not a problem and I'm happy with those. The redirects though are a no-no for me.

Is that happening only on mobile?
What are the ads about? To what pages are you being sent?

Obviously unwanted... but please provide as much info as possible so I can feed that back.
