Mclaren have a very high standard for young drivers program and Stoffel have exceeded the standard. I don't thing Nyck de Vries will be replacing Fernando. He didn't do well in GP3 series. Same goes to Nobuharu Matsushita (Honda young driver).
There are many suitable candidates:
- Carlos Sainz (Most probably Fernando will introduce him to mclaren) if he is not promoted to Red Bull Racing
- Daniel Riccardo
- Sebastian Vettel (if he takes a sabbatical from Ferrari)
- Lewis Hamilton (he is a goal seeker. He want to accomplish what his Hero Aryton Senna has done. Driving a Mclaren Honda might be one of his dream)
- Valterri Bottas (not sure about his williams contract)
As I said earlier, Mclaren have a high standard when choosing a driver to fight for Championship. What do you guys think is the suitable candidate to be driving next to Stoffel Vandoorne in 2018?
For me, I choose Carlos Sainz. I feel that Stoffel and Carlos is a best combination.
I still think that Carlos will go to Renault but who knows, it depends on if Alonso feels ok in McLaren.
Hamilton in 2018 would be an interesting option if Honda can deliver in 2017. The Senna-Honda legend is something motivating but I dont know if Lewis wants to go back to McLaren.
