To me it sounds like semi-forced retirement. McLaren wanted to retain his new jewel but at the same offer an elegant way of retiring for Jenson. He will continue to be part of F1 and have a job, so retirement from racing wont be as traumatic as when you leave it completely and ask youself "what the hell am I going to do now?amho wrote:I'm disappointed that Button won't drive, he always says that he want to be a front-runner"it’s not just about driving, it’s also about winning" and his retirement means that he doesn't see a good future for Honda engine or Mclaren chassis side, he has access to data and knows about the gap and the future development.he also refused to drive for Williams because they haven't shown a promising performance in spite of having a strong Mercedes engine.
withe the least reliable car on the grid the points are meaningless . it's how the drivers performed when the cars are actually running ; I stand by my statementAndres125sx wrote:WDC:lebesset wrote:will honda really want to continue paying alonso after this contract ? don't see it , he hasn't exactly put button in the shade in a poor car , has he ; no reason he should in a good one
11. Alonso, 30 points

15. Button, 17 points
Maybe you were used to Alonso whipping the floor with all his previous team mates so this difference does not look that big, but it actually is, 76% more points than his team mate, biggest difference in the grid between teammates with points![]()
About Honda paying or not Alonso salary from 2018, what I can´t see is Honda demanding Alonso as a driver, and paying his salary while they have a poor PU, and when they finally fight for victories stop demanding Alonso to save money. Nosense.
Points do not tell the complete story.Andres125sx wrote:WDC:lebesset wrote:will honda really want to continue paying alonso after this contract ? don't see it , he hasn't exactly put button in the shade in a poor car , has he ; no reason he should in a good one

Don't expect to see another Honda upgrade until at least Japan or maybe USA at the earliest, it has to be aligned with their final engine allocationgodlameroso wrote:Are there any reports of McLaren bringing a final upgrade for Singapore?
True, you must analyse car problems for each one to see how many races they were able to show their talent. But when you do it, they´re pretty matched.Sonador wrote:Points do not tell the complete story.Andres125sx wrote:WDC:lebesset wrote:will honda really want to continue paying alonso after this contract ? don't see it , he hasn't exactly put button in the shade in a poor car , has he ; no reason he should in a good one

I think you can put him ALMOST even with Vettel.Andres125sx wrote:True, you must analyse car problems for each one to see how many races they were able to show their talent. But when you do it, they´re pretty matched.Sonador wrote:Points do not tell the complete story.Andres125sx wrote: WDC:

But don´t get me wrong, I rate Button higher than Massa, Rosberg and even higher than Kimi, who IMHO is overrated and is a WDC only because McLaren and FIA did gift him with a crown while favouring Lewis in 2007. Jenson is the opposite, another single WDC but in this case underrated. IMO of course
Have heard rumours of the last Honda upgrade in either the US or Malaysia, don't think they'll want to take the penalties in one of their "home" races that's not the easiest to pass at. Malaysia would be ideal if they can get it ready in time, no GP2 engine for the Honda home GPthe EDGE wrote:Don't expect to see another Honda upgrade until at least Japan or maybe USA at the earliest, it has to be aligned with their final engine allocationgodlameroso wrote:Are there any reports of McLaren bringing a final upgrade for Singapore?
From what I've seen this year, don't think he's lost his edge but he loses some of his motivation if he's outside of scoring points. If he's in the points, the drive still appears to be there.Alonso Fan wrote:Well I dont think he's lost his edge just yet. He hates the current cars though and that could be a demotivating factor which is showing sometimes in his driving. I must say though, he has done some stunning races like hungary and spa
