Oh, c'mon, Tom. We're all --- wits then. We've all done the ludicrous-speed-on-public-roads thing ourselves. Just because you drive Citroens doesn't mean you can call the rest of us names.Tom wrote:Whatever reason he has for doing that speed he's a ----wit, F1 driver or not you just can't drive safely at that speed if the road is not designed for it and the other traffic is not doing the same.
IMO, it depends a lot on the road and the vehicle being driven. 120mph on a country back road is a bit much, but then on a larger highway it might not be so bad.Ray wrote:120mph on public roads is a little much though, don't you think?
Well, Number Two, you might be right. I can raise and say "My name is Ciro and I have speeded" and you can answer "Hellooo, Ciro!", like in AA meetings.NumberTwo wrote:Oh, c'mon, Tom. I know a guy who drove fast to get his father to hospital asap, crashed and his father died on spot.Ray wrote:There is no reason whatsoever to do that high a speed on a public road unless you are taking someone dying to a hospital.

Anyway, there is a "tradition" here at F1Technical: most of us do not approve speeding on roads, not a little bit. C'mon, Number Two, join us!
Racers do not speed. Hamilton knows he has to apologize. Anyway, the damage to his image is already done: if there is somebody in the world that does not need to break the law is him. FIA has said loudly they are for the WHO campaign to reduce accidents and the main cause is... yes, testosterone, or as the WHO says, "driver related causes".
He was lucky he was caught. I can imagine the headlines if he ran over a pedestrian in France at 100 mph. That could be ground to ban him from racing, or the cause of an injury that'll ruin 2008 for him, if he, I don't know, hit a deer.
[-o< Please, don't race on streets: go to your local race track and learn how much it'll cost you to do a couple of laps in your car, or if you are really stretched for money, go to a kart track and pay for a couple of laps. That could be the beginning of something.
