Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Well they already achieved that Goal in Australia 2015 already. If that is their long Term Plan then goodnight.

the journalist is unable to wright properly the word "engine head" (culeta) :D
He is clearly pointing at the bottom part of the engine.

If it had come out in a reliability loophole then it would be well documented as to what they have done as all teams have to be informed and the changes described to them (and then they have to agree that it's reliability based).

I can't see it, we'd know about it by now, and it would have been thrown out on reliability grounds.

Would explain why Alonso tried to convince everyone there was no power gain though...

They expect to be closer to Ferrari than they have been all season, and hope for a top 5 finish or higher should something happen up front.

New fuel from Mobil1 is being introduced for the rest of the season. It's been part of a long term plan to be "best of the rest" behind the big 3 teams, then in Suzuka do the final update to try to close the gap to Ferrari as much as possible.

In Sepang Alonso had the 6th fastest lap however he was still almost a second off Red Bull, .7 seconds off Ferrari, and 1.4 seconds off Mercedes Pace.
Your translation is pretty accurate, but the bolded part is not. They don´t say the upgrade is considered as reliability, they say Alonso only talked about reliability, specifically saying power has not increased, but the journalist explain that cannot be 100% true as reliability upgrades would not spend any token, and they spent 2 so there must be something more

The most interesting part of the article, apart from stating the upgrade will use pre-chamber ignition, is they say the new spec Mobil1 fuel for pre-chamber ignition will be ready for Suzuka. That means it was not for Malaysia, so that may be the reason they only tested the new PU in FP1 in Malaysia, but they didn´t use in for the race, something none of us did understand.

Completely agree.

Article states that this is the final spec engine too so the remaining token won't be spent.

To be frank, we couldnt make the kind of update that we had wanted. Originally we were aiming to increase the power by making bit more significant development in combustion, but that didnt go well.
So Honda used token for something else (compromised or 2nd best solution). But why couldnt Honda take a bit more time for development in the area to complete it before using tokens?
We couldnt afford to take any more time.
You have to shift R&D from this year to next and focus fully on next year's at some point eventually, but postponing that for the last 4 races was not an option for us.
ie time out, so that Honda introduced rather minor or compromised update instead. This update is final version of 2016 unit and Honda has no plan to use the remaining 1 token.
- Both JB and FA received an update using 1 token for weight reduction in component that is not engine block itself (thought exhaust).
- FA's new unit (friday one) received another 1 token for reliability improvement for what has been a concern so far.

Thanks to the improvement of reliability, you can use the PU with more comfort/security as a result, so we consider that this should lead to performance improvement too, but unfortunately it (extent of improvement) is not that significant.
"2 tokens" is what Honda is considering atm so it remains to be seen how FIA will make judgement on it.

What worry me is the part where he talks about new CC design and says "that didnt go well"
Maybe Honda cant handle the technology yet.

Could mean it didn't go well wit the current architecture.
