Is this April the 1st  ?
- Renault chose worse of the two drivers
- ...and the one with less potential
- after a season he showed nothing to justify keeping him and plenty to justify mid-season firing
- I guess it's Palmer and not Magnussen that is 'future world champion' now?

- they're wasting three seasons on Palmer and you wonder why they fail season after season?
- at least autosport will not whine about 'French structure' for a while

Driver choices in F1 are an outright joke. Kvyat, Palmer, Stroll, Raikkonen etc.

Edit: So Ocon didn't impress enough after all =P~ ? They all always impress no one in particular before getting into cars. Why not put him in GP2 for a season? If he's that good he should be fine against Gasly etc. and develop basics. If he's not why waste time?

So
Mercedes Ham/Ros
Red Bull Ric/Ves
Ferrari Vet/Rai
McLaren Alo/Van
Renault Hul/Pal
Williams Bot/Str
Force India Per/Oco
Haas Gro?/Mag
Sauber ?/? Maybe Gutierrez comes back? + Ericsson?
Toro Rosso Sai/Kyv
Manor Whe/?
If this is the case then surely Nasr and Ericsson must be staying at Sauber? They've got too much money to not be able to secure their drives.

If we are to believe what was said before, he's just warming up Bottas seat, maybe Magnussen didn't like that and went for something different where he may have some stability.

The FI seat remains the question Nasr or Ocon?

If Sirotkin beats him in first practice tomorrow, then people at Renault should think more about this decison. That will be second time this year.

Both Palmer and K-Mag have had to deal with a seriously flawed car this year that has been described as almost impossible to drive or set up due to too many compromises being made due to lack of funds and the late switch of engine supplier. Palmer now has another season to prove himself, I hope next years Renault is vastly superior to this years and both drivers can perform to their full potential.

K-Mag now has one last chance with a new team to impress, a two year deal is obviously better than one but the 2018 silly season should throw up even more exciting prospects for drivers ready and willing to try somewhere new.

Good luck to both drivers for 2017

I believe that Haas offered Magnussen a seat already a while ago since they aren't happy with Guttierez. Magnussen moved his deadline several times, but seem to have run out of patience with Renault, and decided to sign with Haas to make sure he had a future in F1.

Since Ocon is actually a Mercedes driver, and seems to be destined for Force India, Renault had to basically chose between Nasr who brings money, or Palmer who brings money. Palmer is already settled in the team, so it makes sense to keep him.

Its not really inspiring. I expect Renault to attract much better drivers for 2018.

I think, that Renault do not need two top drivers in 2017, because they know they will not have the wining car, until 2018. Let's hope Jo will be the regular point scorer.

Nasr stays at Sauber or goes to Force India.
Ocon stays at Manor or goes to Force India.

Palmer staying at Renault is not so surprising. Not like he's any good, but who wants to go there for a year to know they'll get ditched in favor of Bottas next year anyway? So Palmer gets to stay another year to get ditched next year.

And Nasr sucks ass, so they are both fit for the scrap pile.

Nasr lets down big time too. Only difference with DiGrassi is his BancoDoBrazil backing, which means there's still something to grab from that scrap before it gets ditched.
and again, with Massa out, and no new Brazilian in, Bernie COULD be advocating for keeping Nasr in the field. Then again, he sh*ts even on the Brazilian GP if he sees fit to,
so with Mr. Ecclestone, you never really know.

I read an interview with K-Mag he was getting frustrated with a car that is either far too slow or just slow and had to be driven
so it was barely possible to keep on the track.

It'll be interesting to see how both fare against more "established drivers"

Problem with the Renault this year is basically they have moved focus to 2017 right from the start of the season. The car is basically an evolution of the 2015 car with changes that suit 2016 regulations. See it as Williams back in 1998. the car was basically almost the same like the 1997 car but with a narrower car track and rebadged Renault engines named Mecachrome. It's a bit similar with Renault this season. The car wasn't great in 2015 and if you basically take the same car and put some bits on it to fit the new regulations, the car won't be better either. Only benefit, it's the Renault official constructors team.
