Felipe Massa at least fought for a title (Ferrari), right? That alone qualifies him on another level. I do not know if Nasr will continue, I do not think so.
I read an article published by AMuS today. Said that Toto Wolf is trying to put Werhlein in Sauber. Manor would receive Nasr with open arms because he has more money than Werhlein, Gutierrez and Haryanto, but warns Manor may not be on the grid next year if they finish last in the constructor championship.

The article also said that Banco do Brasil (Nasr sponsor) does not want to negotiate with Sauber because of the current performance of the team. But with Manor, maybe.
As far as is known, Haryanto has the same (financial) resources as Nasr and Gutierrez meets the best conditions. As for the sponsorship of BB, rumors say that would be about 6 million euros (less than half that was before). I think this is the real reason Force India and Renault have not signed with him and now Sauber in doubt for 2017.

Manor did not expect to finish 10th this year I am sure of it. Mr. Fitzpatrick would have been foolish not to budget for that, so I fully expect Manor to be on the grid next year. It's just a matter of hiring the highest bidder now and they will be fine. They already spent the enitre year desigining the 2017 car with Pat Fry at helm and he has been known to direct the design of some pretty good cars (Ferrari 2015, Ferrari 2013, Ferrari 2012)

With the four places left, which are most likely to be sold to the highest bidders, but with only 4 real drivers left (can't see someone be promoted at this moment)
Two drivers have more or less an engine manufacturer behind them (GUT and WHE), so they will probably, for a bit of discount go to Sauber and Manor respectively. ERI is I believed tied in with the new investors of Sauber, so that's a deal pretty much done and that leaves NAS for Manor.

Manor will be down on money, but with 2017 merc power, Sauber with a bit more cash but with '16 Ferraris. Could be fun!

Not sure if GUT carries the Ferrari engine behind him ( i highly doubt) or if he was merely a stock bundle the new engine itself. The Sauber engine won't be new next year so good luck with that.

I forgot about VER! For Sauber every dime counts and for Ferrari, a test (sim) driver with track time is worth quite a lot.

I'd rather drive for Manor next year than Sauber. Dave Ryan and Nikolas Tombazis also joined I believe too early to make a large impact on this year's car. They may well be much more competitive in 2017.

Pastor Maldanado spoilt it for all pay drivers with a cheque in excess of $40 million

I think Perez is also bringing in close to that

Palmers Lotus drives for Friday where at $375,000 a session and he did something around 13 last year.

Sauber drives are not cheap, both drivers put together bring in a rumored $50 million. Don't believe that Nasr is bringing such as small amount ($9 million) mentioned above. If he stays in Sauber next year the pairing is quiet un motivated and the car does not add anything to it. Sauber will also be angling for the Petrobras sponsorship to be now attached to Nasr. and hopefully enough funds for a B-Spec post summer with the 2017 Ferrari Engine.

By comparison the manor drives were cheap at $10 million, but next year that seat will be priced higher as the car will be fighting for 9-10th in the Constructors.

- Spoilt? What does it even mean? Spolit with winning the race against some competition (not Herbert type), speed and performing (unlike those non pay drivers) against good benchmarks (unlike RB drivres). He's not in F1 for a year, what's the purpose of bringing it the context of '17? Information that has no value.
- Perez "same - you think", meaning you made it up? Again: performing better than drivers paid 30, 20, 35 and 15 million: Vettel, Raikkonen, Alonso and Button, and many more starting with Hulkenberg (non pay driver :o ) Massa, Kvyat, Sainz, Ricciardo, Verstappen. Perhaps you should ask yourself why they keep non paying drivers.

- Palmer, this one is weird not only because of lack of talent: http://en.f1i.com/news/79713-magnussen- ... offer.html Apparently Renault offered Magnussen a drive and he turned it down.
The deal was only for this year with an option for 2017 that had to be activated by October 1. The 24-year-old agreed to extend the deadline for another two weeks but a confirmation never materialised.
- Since it was up to them to keep him with a clear deadline (later extended with his consent) why was he surprised they didn't inform him about negotiations with other drivers? He forgot how he replaced Perez?
- If they wanted to keep him why didn't they extend his contract when they could?
- Weird decision, he was fine with staying 01.10 - 14.10 but not later? He should have stayed.

Until Pastor came along what was the seat prices? $10 million max??

This has nothing to do with Maldanado's or Perez's ability as a driver but how much teams bleed some drivers (with potential backing) for a seat

How much is Lance Stroll paying? Regular pay driver amounts or some uber amount like $80 million (just a number)

After 13 free practise outhings in 2015.Test days with both Force India and Lotus, Palmer almost isn't rookie at all.
Still, this kid has not enough for F1. Very bad choise for RF1. I would be happy if I am wrong. [-o<

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. However rubbish it might be. In this case: totally.

Renault got desperate, they tried a number of drivers, non would take the short contract they offered so went to Palmer as a last resort and said he didn't need to bring backing just so they have someone in the car they can eject in 2018 if they make improvements on the chassis side and become competitive that a big name wants to join.

I think they took Palmer because of his backing else they could have used Jean Eric Vergne
