Why the "???" after Technical Director? Everybody knows (well, apparently not...) that's Jorg Zander

So Wehrlein goes from racing a current Merc PU to racing a year old Ferrari PU which will have no updates throughout the year?

Does this mean that Wehrlein is no longer a Mercedes jr driver?

It means that the future of ManorF1 is doubt. Wehrlein is still a Mercedes driver and will be for the foreseeable future. But, if Mercedes puts it own driver in a Ferrari that must mean that they think the situation at Manor is so unstable that they wont risk Wehrlein's future with it and go for a drive that is certain for 2017.

That makes sense I guess. I just though that as it seemed he got overlooked for the FI drive and seemingly Rosbergs seat or Bottas seat coupled with how he didn't seem to blow Rio away maybe Merc decided to let him go his own way.

Your version seems much more logical though ;)

Well, that depends on whether Sauber will actually run Ferrari engines next year.
It's highly probable they will, and rather unlikely they won't.

Yet then again, Sauber has been a Mercedes 'customer' a long while ago, and they're in dire need of some performance.
An old Ferrari engine won't bring that, nor does Marcus Ericsson.

With Manor probably out, and thus a customer less, Mercedes has the capacity to supply one, and last year, Manor surely got a discount on Merc power thanks to Wehrlein.

That could mean 'good news' for biggest lucker in the field, kaltentrash's mess, Sauber 2017; in the form of a big discount on Mercedes power, which they probably can afford due to ERicssons money and the money they 'aquired' from BdB, aswell as their paycheck from 2016 standings. Perhaps they can even lure some of Manor's clients if that one is gone [sponsors].

That is an scenario I did not consider, but Kaltenborn was ademend that they picked the 2016 Ferrari PU because they want to focus on the car design. But, we know that words coming from here mouth should not be taken seriously. Sauber with an Mercedes engine that could be the reason for Wehrlein's weired placement with Sauber.

you'll find it interesting that Ferrari is no longer mentioned as partner in the Sauber website.

it is mentioned as one of the previous C3X models, but no longer as a partner.

Now that Manor is in Administration, a bunch of Merc engines is lying around.

Will Sauber take on this supply of Merc engines either in 2018 or mid-season 2017? Could be a sure way of beating Renault and Haas.

Mentioned that a post or 2 above. Again, with the signing of wehrlein makes it very much possible and in certain aspects even probable.
nevertheless that doesn't mean it actually happens, but it's very much possible.

anyway, love that C12. when sauber was still sauber.
