Jerez testing

Post

It seems that these pics show 2008 spec cars...

Note that they have 2008 driver head protection, unlike the cars tested by Renault, RBR, Super HondAguri and Williams

Two questions

1) In the first picture, is that a new helmet for luzzi?

2) In the williams picture, what is the hole near the sidepod/radiator outlet, underneath the RBS logo?
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

3rd Question - Didn't FIF1 and Toro Rosso say they were just using a development of last years car, so therefore, there will be no "launch" etc. Thus they will introduce 2008 spec parts as and when they are ready??

Could Q2. be a cooling vent for an oil/fuel cooler?

Liuzzi's helmet is new, due to his red bull sponsorship has ended now that he has left them.

The raised cockpit protections definetely indicates that those are the cars they will start the season with. I think both FIF1 and Toro Rosso will get their new car when they return to Europe (Barcelona). Anyway Vettel is fourth fastest today, big achievement for Toro Rosso, even if there were changing conditions...

I heard that Red Bull keeps sponsoring Liuzzi. But Red Bull as a company and not Red Bull as a team.

The reason why Toro Rosso and Force India have the 2008 driver head protection is because they will indeed start with the same car as in 2007 with only some updates. The updates are focussed on meeting with the new regulations (like the head protection, the ECU,...), but beside that, Toro Rosso and Force India will focus on aerodynamics to improve the 2007 car.

Force India will race this car with perhaps some more aero modifications and a new livery!

What is the small little bulge on top of the cockpit ears?

Image

What is the purpose of that small hole underneath the air intake?

Image

What is that string underneath the flip ups?

These are small things that I saw when I was briefly going motorsport.com pictures.

Also in testing is the R27 a hybrid of the R27 and the new R28? like new electronics, gearbox and rear suspension?

The string is actually a cable which keeps the edge of the floorpan stiff even under any aerodynamic load it experiences. It might just be to comply with the 'non-moving floor regs' or it might be a vital part for the chassis dynamics.

Is that a cooling vent on the F2008 or is it a testing device of some sort? Does it have anything to do with all those heat stickers around that area?
