InCar Cameras

Post

Does anyone have any info on the in-car cameras used in F1?

I heard this is the first year they will be running a full High Def production facility at the track, however I'm not sure if they will be broadcasting it. I could be completely wrong though, just rumour.

I'm curious to know what kind of onboard equipment they use in the cars. From the camera to the transmitter.

I've also noticed that the teams only get the edited/mixed broadcast of the race. Surely you'd think they'd open up all video channels to the teams, particularily cameras on their own cars.

Anyone care to comment?

This is a bit peripheral, I'm afraid, but there is a company called Gigawave - http://www.gigawave.co.uk/ - which makes this gear. I don't know if they are currently in F-1 at all, or small or big but here's the funny thing. Their newest employee, their new Director of Race Technologies is none other than our dear friend Nigel Stepney! Yes! Read about it here! - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/64789

They (Gigawave) do stuff for the FIA GT championship I know. Not sure about F1 though.
