Ferrari 2017 Contender Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Judging by the sneek peak in that Pirelli video, the real car will look a lot like this

Car spec. A with "short" wheelbase.
Car spec. B currently developed in windtunnel with long wheelbase a la RB and Merc.

seems Marchionne has to fire another TD soon, #-o (sarcsm)
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

1. If you read all the article you would have noticed that the author is not sure if the ferrari 2017 car has a B spec car. Also stating that the shorter wheelbased cars have their advantages and that the boys are Maranello are "smiling".

2. Looking at 2016 numbers you can easily see that the biggest different in wheelbase is just over 20cm : http://s27.postimg.org/mheboujoj/2016_wheel_base.jpg. Even so the performance of the car stated as of lately by Newey is that PU are still the most important thing.

3. It simply doesnt make sense. Why would Ferrari use precious time in the tunnel to develor a B-spec car that will be introduced mid season?

4. Let us not deep digger into this --- since, this is a rumor based on another rumor.

SF-70H is the 2017 name it seems. In honor of 70 years of racing.

You think after 70 years of racing the SF-70H would a leader and in a class of its own... Instead its the product of inbreeding and desperate attempts to gain access to other teams intellectual data.

Speaking of desperation, naming wise, it seems Ferrari chose between the desperation of trying to tie themselves to Jules or the desperation of clinging to their Bonus payment.

Ferrari chose the money, really quite telling.

Still won't get them a win. Expect the same thing around February 2018.
Welcome to the layer cake, son.

That's one of the more misguided posts I've read here.

Even if any portion of the underlying basis for your complaints turns out to be valid, none of it is more than hearsay and rumor right now.

In addition, you've forgotten Ferrari's history of using nomenclature to commemorate both events and people, e.g. 250 Spyder Fantuzzi, Dino, F2003-GA, Enzo Ferrari, 612 Scaglietti, F60, 150° Italia, etc.

You've also forgotten that Ferrari itself was the victim of actual espionage--and still won--and that every team makes use of off-track political wrangling in "desperate" attempts to improve their on-track fortunes.

What you should have said was, "I don't like Ferrari." It would have been much more credible. (And I might have even agreed with you at this point.)

We have gone through that before, haven't we  .

Do we have a name for the car now? SF-70H?

Yes, thank you. :)

Regarding this rumor it is stated in the article that there are no plans for a B-spec car according to a *smiling* Giacomo Tortora.

Moreover it is stated that POSSIBLY Ferrari have a shorter wheelbase to decrease weight and to make the car handle better because of the extra balast in the right places.

Also towards the end of the article the author starts talking about the 2008 season and that short cars dominated the field.

Again this leads me to believe that either the short wheelbase rumor is a lie or that even if it is true then he doesn't know if it is a a disadvantage or not.

The article was written by Franco Nugnes.

Who also wrote this article on 01.01.2017 : https://translate.googleusercontent.com ... XV-Nfwr4mg

Which is in contradiction with his latest article.

Rumors in a nutshell.

Anyone know when we can expect to see something today? Wonder if they'll do like Mercedes and do some running first.

The tweeted vid doesn't really provide much:
https://twitter.com/scuderiaferrari/sta ... 1073948677 You'd hope they and McLaren would try not to step on each other's toes.
