This also states that the engine they will run this afternoon will be last week's spec.
No, it just says that the Pu used during this morning session is the same spec as last week. Theres no news as to what spec they ll switch to for this afternoon.

Hopefully...the "Aus spec"
La especificación motor desmontado y del nuevo es misma semana pasada.

This sentence says: The spec of the engine that is being taken out and the new one are the same as last week's.
Key is "y del Nuevo".
You´re right. I stand corrected.

From his previous tweet, it appears that "Melbourne spec" is not ready yet. *sigh*

I imagine they will simply run the new engine in Melbourne practice and use the weekend as an extended test. They are now effectively in exactly the same position they've found themselves in for the last 2 winters, limited testing milage and poor reliability.

Calm down Bruno dear. It's a long season.

Terrible news though.

C'mon mate, this isn't the US. They have agreed in a mutual partnership in a state of the art mechanical sport where the best engines run at 950-1000 bhp for about 2500 km. Of course there are risks of failure. With one engine supplier more than with another. Should Toro Rosso sue Renault for not having been able to do a lot of testing the last week? Of course not.

Yeah it's not just about this testing right? This is 3rd of their incompetence.

Honda does not belong in F1 anymore.

They should leave and focus on building human-like robots.

But incompetence doesn't necessarily mean they should be sued. That was my point.

Wonder if Fernando still "believe" in this project".

Such a pity. I really wanted to see a surprise from McLaren this year, but things just don't go right, too often.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's a valid reason to sue in the US!

Lol you could sue for anything in USA. I figure people here sue even if someone's pet pees on someone else's lawn. But to be serious, mclaren sueing Honda is ridiculous.

Either way, the truth is Honda has royally screwed up McLaren with their incompetence.

For Monaco i would still blame the engine too. In fact the engine will show most of its weaknesses in Monaco since there is more unsteady running and more varying demands.
The engine will simply deliver power in an underwhelming, or slow or poorly metered way relative to a mercedes or ferrari.
I think you can use an extreme example of driving your road car with a missing engine, or poor fuelling. It will buck and kick and will definitely throw off how smoothly your drive the car, even if you are going slowly.
Of course most of those can be valid and some even are. And if you have nothing its first thing into mind, but you can check seperately different aspects of your assumptions. its all on video! its not like you have to make your opinion from pictures and results only. there are places where you can isolate other aspects.
you dont have to imagine or compare to road cars.
How do you isolate one part of the car from another, unless you have internal performance figures?? The car is a whole, it's performance is a result of all the parts and if 1 of those parts isn't up to scratch then the rest will be compromised.

So how can you separate those things out simply by watching videos?

And do you honestly think Alonso would keep his mouth shut about the chassis but not the PU?
This, specially if you take into account it´s Honda who pay his salary

Well, the Honda issues are alarming.

However, let us look at a bit of history.
During 2011 the average position for GPs was 3.39 (for the classified races, there was also 5 nonclassified retirements)
During 2012 the average position of the finished GPs was 6.18 with 7 retirements where they were not classified and 3 retirements where they were classified.
During 2013 the average position was instead 9.63 (with 0 nonclassified retirements and 3 classified retirements).
During 2014 the average finishing position was 8.44 (with 2 nonclassified retirements and 1 classified retirement)

The results in 2015 and 2016 are of course even worse. However, the trend was already pointing down before Honda started supplying them.

The averages have been calculated based on the classified retirements. The data was taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Formula_One_season and corresponding pages for the other seasons.

A reminder that Honda had to initially develop that engine in the timespan between 3th quarter of 2013 and first quarter of 2015, whereas Mercedes started from very early 2010. That's almost 4 years of development time Honda did not get compared to Mercedes, including crucially one year of race weekends full of data. Is anyone surprised that that leads to massive catch up issues, no matter how competent you are?

Compare it to NASA and Space X. Is anybody complaining about Space X blowing up shuttles during tests, or that they have not started up fully their commercial work? No, because in that case it's extremely easy to relativate that Space X has a lot of development to do.
