I'd argue Mercedes and Ferrari weren't developing their Engines in failsafe Mode. They, too, had to take risks in Development to come up with the PU's they have now. To me it seems like the whole Testing Department in Sakura is lacking. Be it Staff, Equipment or testing Processes.PlatinumZealot wrote:Remember this new engine design was an accepted high risk.

I don´t know how sure they can be about the chasis quality if they cannot push, as they have already said its difficult to judge car´s performance without going enough fast.RS200E wrote:Interesting that Anderson thinks he knows better than the drivers and the team boss about the cars handling, because he seen it squirming around in a few corners.
Alonso has said the car is good but the engine isn't, quite simple. I have no doubt that Alonso would let it be known if the car was also bad, fundamentally bad.
Maybe Anderson is a McLaren fan and the frustration is clouding his judgement, like has happened to a lot of people!

I see nothing wrong with what Eric & Alonso have been saying, a/ its the truth, b/ if you read the full stories and not just the headlines or the sensationalised quotes version then what they have said is balanced c/ its time Honda produced a PU that works, they are a huge company with masses of experience & resourcePhil wrote:Anyone else think that this public slamming of Honda by Eric and Alonso is not going to end well?
I understand that there must be an incredible amount of frustration going on, but this is still a team-effort. Publicly slamming your engine partner and supplier who is also at the same time financing a major part of the sponsorship and drivers salary isn't a good idea and it certainly isn't constructive. To me as an observer, it seems more like McLaren trying to defend its own "image" by laying the blame to Honda. "hey, it's not us, we have the best car, but it's that engine".
Either way, I foresee big trouble for McLaren if Honda decides to pull the plug some day. This sport is very much driven by image. I wouldn't want to push them too far. It's bad enough that they aren't performing. There is no "we" and "them" in a team-effort.

Indeed, but I don´t to what extend I can believe what McLaren says, though Alonso is usually a more sincere guy.RS200E wrote:More sure than Anderson can be.Vasconia wrote:I don´t know how sure they can be about the chasis quality if they cannot push, as they have already said its difficult to judge car´s performance without going enough fast.RS200E wrote:Interesting that Anderson thinks he knows better than the drivers and the team boss about the cars handling, because he seen it squirming around in a few corners.

Are you sure? Reports said no TJI on 2016 engine at all?godlameroso wrote:Magnetti Marrelli is their supplier, but it's manufactured to Honda specifications. It took Renault the last half of 2015 and half of 2016 to get on top of their TJI system. Honda has had since Spa of last year, or about 7 months. Funny then that they expect their first major power unit upgrade by the Spanish GP, which would give them a similar lead time that Renault had to get to grips with their system.
