Air cooled MGU-K

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Air cooled MGU-K

Post

Renault requires an extra 1kg air bottle for cooling their '2016' MGU-K.

What kind of cooling are you going to get from a pressurized air bottle?

For how long? Do you think this is a supply that is refilled by an accessory pump after usage?

Is there anything in the regs preventing them from extracting work from a pressurized container such as cooling bottles and pneumatic spring bottles ?

probably not since the amount of energy you could store is tiny

It is an expansion tank I think. Closed circuit cooling/heating systems in various applications usually have an expansion tank. Some have bladders that are pressurized by compressed air.
