Williams FW40 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

For whatever reason for a couple of races now Lance's car the lower T-Wing while Massa's doesn't.

Looks like the Williams FW40 is not bad car at all!
My understating is that the team focus is/was on getting actual aero bits work as good as possible.
Here we can see some of work done by Dirk de Beer in the last weeks.

As we all know team Williams did not bring to many aero updates for the last 4 races :)
Claire announced that the team will have aero updates for Barcelona. But no details how big they are!

Don't break out the champagne just yet, this is traditionally a track that suits Williams perfectly(and the opposite for Red Bull), hence the car "punching above it's weight" today.

But yeah Williams sure has took their time in upgrading this car, maybe it's a new direction brought by Paddy or to allow Dirk to put his touches in the next package.

Williams always had a good performance in Sochi, so I'm not surprised with the result. Next race will be in Spain and the Circuit of Barcelona is the best track of season to show how good is the car is compared to the others.

If Williams (Massa) is able to repeat the performance in Spain, it will be a real surprise since Red Bull will introduce its "B" spec car and is expected they will increase the gap to Williams.

Have the sidepods/engine cover gotten a little tighter? Or is it just the angle?

A sneaky one here.

New rear wing endplates.

The old one for comparison.

The first slot now extends all the way down (which means it's no longer a slot but a vane, going by how those things are called).

Also the monkey seat from the front
