Have there been any releases by Mclaren @ whether the 2 chassis (ALO/VAN) are consistently running identical hardware & setups?

Here is the article I'm referring to, which was March 29 regarding ALO v VAN: differences to the front wing, bargeboards, sidepod vortex generators, and floor.

Don't recall anything recently but at one point when Alonso had updates that Stoff didn't at one race, they had mentioned Stoff had the updates for the next race. At Russia they both appeared to be the same, seems so far this year Alonso has got the aero updates first if there is only one set available, but the other car normally has the same updates the next race.

Not sure why you care...

You trying to explain why Alonso Qualifies .5 a second a lap faster (on average)?

It isn't the parts.

Thanks, I've been wondering how Mclaren has been choosing to use their time this season. I'd guess they have more opportunities to experiment/test (and to further extremes) than they typically would.

It feels to me that I see so little PR from Mclaren over race weekend that I don't have a good understanding of their 2017 developmental plan (or lack thereof). On the one hand, I assume the team could take each chassis in a developmentally different direction to make the best use of their time, but maybe that's unnecessary or not cost-effective for them at this point.

And then Boullier's comments about not knowing the reasons behind successful Bahrain testing makes me wonder if they don't have a stable enough foundation to begin making dramatic changes.

Of course at some level PU limitations come into play, just curious about how they're making the best use of their time + money working around that issue at present.

It's too early to make such statements. Stoffels qualifyings:
Australia: fuel pressure issue in Q1, only one run
China: delay to get on track
Bahrain: no issues, FA 0.3s faster
Russia: different car setup due to penalties, no real effort to get out of Q1

This is unbelievable. Alonso out with another PU issue and gold fluid gushing out of the car.

Maybe it has to do with the new slimmer Sidepods. Could be one of the new Internals has a leak.

That looks more like a missing pipe than a leak.

I'm already passed stage 5: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kübler-Ross_model
completely agree, I feel sorry for people still stuck with earlier stages. McLaren-Honda should be renamed as "Honda". they will kill this "brand". why on earth they are still racing ohh sorry "crawling"...

Regarding the oil leak: I follow Jef Patat's opinion it more looks like faulty assemblage, meaning McLaren themselves have made a mistake here. Honda gets a lot of flak, and will probably be blamed for this too, but in this case that'll not be fair.
