No, Alonso doesn't care for meager points, nor does Mclaren. they care and need the WDC and WCC title. That means wins and podiums on own strenght, not luck or anything like that.
The time that has passed now for Honda to be defendable is gone. 2015, 2016, ok. But were 3 years on now and they keep bringing trash to the table.
This is not the first year Honda is in F1 now. They've been woroking on it atleast since 2013. That's 4 years now.
Wazari mentioned enough points on what is wrong, and it's clear as day he's absolutely correct. Which also means we won't see progress this year.

Mclaren by definition.

Mclaren also doesn't built the engines for their street cars. But when you buy one you expect Mclaren to ensure that the thing doesn't blow up in a puff of smoke and oil on the way back from the dealership. You don't expect them to point to Ricardo/ MHI for answers.

As a manufacturer you are responsible for the product and all the parts that go in it. Certainly if that part is custom built for you. You can say that a Honda engine has failed, but that also means that the Mclaren oversight over the process has failed.

And you can bet that by now Mclaren has a team on the ground at Honda and every aspect of design, testing and manufacturing has to be approved by them. If they don't have that, then they really don't care.

I'm sorry but if Red Bull can win as a customer there is no excuse Mclaren cannot.

RedBull were basically the Renault works team for their title winning seasons and that was in an aero and chassis dominated era where the engines were all pretty similar. Now the power unit is the most important element so its even more important to be a works team or else you will always be at a disadvantage to the works team of the engine manufacturer supplying you.

So Mclaren needs to build a truly good chasis and things could work. Can they do it?

Much better FP3 with Alonso doing good times, it seems that the minor updates around the PU are working well.

Gap is very low at s3. with a better engine they can be good. First 2 sector need aero and engine, İf I am not wrong. Engine lowers the gap but I don't know about aero. It may be worse than Redbull

It is very hard to say where they are in terms of aero but drivers who have driven behind the McLaren have said that its there or thereabouts with red bull

At the moment that's simply not going to happen. If they can become 4 the fastest by the end of the season that would be a huge turn around, but IMO it's very unlikely.
