It's good but not yet top tier. It can happen with more McLaren style developing, that power unit needs to get better, there's definite potential there for the car to be good once that happens.
The biggest shame is there are practically no more circuits like this, there are only Tilkedroms left with miles of straights...
Well there are lots of circuits where the corners are still the dominant factor - Silverstone, Suzuka, even Spa to some extent - and I think the McLaren chassis will be very good through the corners of all those circuits; but you still need horsepower in motor racing, it's always going to be the case.

For McLaren, I don't think being 6th or 7th should really be much different than finishing 19th or 20th; yeah, you're closer and/or making progress, which can be indicative of future success, but unless you're competitive it's still not what you expect.
I see what you want to point but sure being 4th fastest is very important. And finishing higher place of course. Mcl32 had show it potential and now honda must show than everything will be easier for next year especially on money side.

Good to see these Meetings from Stoffel and his Engineers regarding his driving Style really delivered. Seems he is much more comfortable with the Car now and can extract Performance. Shame about the Crash in Q2 but getting both Cars in Q3 and show some Good Speed in Barcelona and Monaco is really encouraging. Efficiency of the PU should be a little less of a Problem tomorrow. So lets see what they can do.

Great job from Button, without any testing under these new rules, gets to comeback after months without driving in the most unforgiving of tracks and he doesn't put a foot wrong and is reasonably competitive, what a guy.

Shame he'll have to eat that penalty and that will kill his chances.

Can we conclude that the chassis is not as bad as the engine from Monaco Qualifying?

It's the 3rd best chassis...

Doesn't look too bad all of a sudden, wouldn't you say?

I still am hopeful for the second half of the season regarding the PU.
For this race though I would let Button start on SS and pit him after the first lap to US and go all the way to the end. It'll be his best chance for points in case of SC's in my opinion.

The Mclaren chassis is looking good this weekend. However, if Honda gets a competitive edge out of the PU will the chassis be able to cope in it's current guise? How much of the baseline can be kept?
Always find the gap then use it.

Agree with all of above.

So good to see Peter Prodromou & Matt Morris getting their mojo to work together.

No. The engine can be good on one lap. You can run the engine on damaging but more powerful maps and you start with charged batteries. In sector 1 (two straights and one corner) the car was on par with the RedBulls, this is a sign, that the engine is not far behind in Q.
In the race the car (Van) was simply slow...I do not think you can blame the engine alone for that. Plus bad strategic decisions...the team is bad in every part of it.
