Williams FW40 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Are those 2 diffirent new front brake ducts? My brain has difficoulty conecting front view with this 3/4 view with any good solution. I also wonder if this is race related update as this circuit is the hardest one for brakes in the seson, or will those new brake ducts be on the car for the rest of the year?

Only Felipe Massa has the new floor and Bargeboards, at least Friday was this way.

Both drivers have the Canada front brake ducts.

Do they have a cut in the floor? (at the beginning of the side-pod)

Yes, I think they have.

You are right, also the connection of the sidepod conditioner to the floor has changed.

So we have new front brake ducts, new bardge boards and new floor (no good pics of the diffuser jet). This is quite a big update for Williams standards.

The vertical sidepod blade also changed slightly to guide air into the new floor slot(which is an idea borrowed from STR and Ferrari).

Regarding the updates for Canada Paddy Lowe made this comment: "I also want to say a big thank you to the teams back at the factory for the number of upgrades here this weekend, both on the chassis and the power unit, which contributed to the pace we were able to show today. "

B spec of Williams FW40 confirmed!

Williams: in arrivo cambio in carbonio e sospensione posteriore nuova

https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/willi ... va-917262/

New composite gearbox and rear suspension.

In resume:

Because of actual rear suspension - the car suffer from traction shortage!

At Montreal, Williams brought a modified floor in front of the rear wheels with six blows in the side entry edge to better control their squirt.

The construction of a gearbox case will be using composite materials (it is in manufacturing stage, seeking greater structural rigidity and weight savings).

New rear suspension - Paddy Lowe also intends to modify the rear suspension with a more suitable design for the new Pirelli wide tires.

It will interesting if the new car will have the distance between front and rear wheels changed.
