Fernando Alonso

THe difference between him and Piquet is night and day in practice.

Didn't think he'd be topping times half way through.

Wait until quali. Piquet had technical problems and only got 3 laps in. I have a feeling he will easily be top 10.

Renault didn't even make it into Q3. With Alonso no less.

It is deffinately looking like the midfield is standing on the short curlies of the front runners.

I doubt that you could slip a Zig-Zag between McLaren, Ferrari and BMW.

Look for FA to be heavy on fuel, and do a possible 1 stopper to try and improve from 11th.

The first corner is gonna be awesome to watch!!!

Last year, Fisi with the terrible R27 at least made it to Q3.
Perhaps the diff problem is a reason, but close as things are in the middle pack, Renault are going to work hard. Pehaps their confidence in Nando will make them evolve faster than last year, when apparently they took to long to consider Fisi's input in vehicle development...

Flav must be proud of Nelsinho, though: he really listened to the boss' warnings about being near Alonso. :D

Fernando has proved how he can perform in a bad car like Renault by finishing in the points and overtaking a quicker Mclaren.

Again, last year Fisichella was 5th in the R27 in the Australian GP, where 17 drivers finished (as opposed to 6 this year...). I hardly see where Fernando did better than Giancarlo.

The "overtaking a quicker Mclaren" was a nice opportunistic move by Nando, that's true, but only made possible by a desperate Ferrari breathing his last breath in Kovi's way and Kovi out of its place due to misfortune in the timing of the Safety Car intervention. Not to mention that the reason he finished in front of the mentioned McLaren was a stupid little mistake by the Finn, that pushed accidentally the pit limiter button in the middle of the straight.

I know all of us need a little dreaming in their lives, though...

lol - talk about a completely different view point... Heikki had done him and it was all over, until Heikki made a mistake and knocked the limiter...that's why FA strolled back past...nothing to do with FA at all.

From what I saw of the race (twice viewed), Fernanado Alonso got the absolute most he could of the Renault. A car that barely runs mid-pack, and who's pace falls off more than the rest as the tires degrade.
You drove a great race, Alonso.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.

Fernando did good, as DaveKillens said. The Renault is a dissaster, worse than last year´s car, but it will improve with FA input through the year. I think that Fernando is the kind of driver that can´t stand a bad car too long, so I wonder if he is already thinking about driving a Ferrari for 2009.

Belatti:

If you were ferrari, and had to pick someone to team up with Kimi in 2009, would you take Nando or Vettel?

I think Nando ruined his chances with the Scuderia with his attempted blackmail of McLaren last year.

Remember, if he did that in Italy, he would already be "missing".

I was reallyy dissapointed aswell, he isn't much of a chassis developer, but hopefully he can learn something from FA. Bummed that he had to park it halfway through....
