It's not about prediction. It's about using his skills to decide whether Honda looked like they had put enough into their comeback, which clearly Honda didn't. We have to assume Honda was Ron's only choice as in hindsight they clearly weren't doing a good enough job to the build up of their entry. It always worried me that there were no reports of a test mule to check the engine under real track conditions. Honda should have been able to afford this. And god knows what else they were lacking in.Shakeman wrote: ↑30 Jun 2017, 18:32To be fair no one could've predicted the scale of disaster this would be. Ron's decision could've lead to more glory years if Honda had kept their end of the bargain.RS200E wrote: ↑30 Jun 2017, 15:56Ron forgot to mention that he signed Honda which has led to the worst years in McLaren history.

Ron Dennis sold all his interests in Mclaren.
I just wonder if we've heard the last from Ron in F1.
Go on then, I'll bite. Where did you see this, and did it say anything about these matters in more detail ?
10 years behind, don't believe everything you read. I haven't heard one complaint about the facilities from Honda. I'm pretty sure McLaren visited Honda several times before signing with them, so they would have noticed that quickly. If the next update will be good everybody will say it's thanks to Illien and their updated facilities, it's how F1 works.RS200E wrote: ↑30 Jun 2017, 21:33It's not about prediction. I've read that a lot of Honda's facilities, R&D and metallurgy are around 10 years behind compared to other manufactures that aren't even in F1, but that Honda are working on these upgrades. Ron must have seen this but still went with Honda. Unless he knew the first few years would be crap and was looking long term.
For example VW which sold most cars in 2016, uses what kind of materials at its road cars and race cars which Honda still 10 years to invent it ?RS200E wrote: ↑30 Jun 2017, 21:33It's not about prediction. Ron just described his current occupation, which houses no space for F1 activities, surely why he has sold his assets.
C'mon guys: compare what Honda have done for 3 years in terms of pure PU performance (hp, power delivery) comparing to what other engine manufactures have done in their 3rth years. Last race in Baku was obviously very clear in this respect: 3th year Honda PU outperformed 4th Ferrari PU (Saubers) in race distance where the chassis wasn't a factor (straights). Most of the fans are loosing this time perspective. Relax (or worry) - Honda will dominate the coming years in F1.RS200E wrote: ↑30 Jun 2017, 21:33I've read that a lot of Honda's facilities, R&D and metallurgy are around 10 years behind compared to other manufactures that aren't even in F1, but that Honda are working on these upgrades. This update needs to put Mclaren clearly ahead of midfield....its a good trac for Mcl, i remeber in 2015 when Alonso pushed the car to get to pits..the gap on time screen was 1.1 sec the best that year.....i see Austria as a milestone in Alonso's and Mclaren final decidion about 2018...if Honda update works and Mclaren brings little something as usual...Alonso should target overall P7 behind Merc Ferr&RB.godlameroso wrote: ↑01 Jul 2017, 04:46So Boullier states that the update is good for a "little bit more" than 20 hp, assuming they're down ~90hp when the season started, if the update is 30 then they'll have essentially halved their engine deficit including their Barcelona update which was good for ~10kW, provided of course the other engines haven't improved. I really hope the update helps them get closer to the front instead of just further ahead of Sauber.
