Williams FW40 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Well i think upgrades that team brought here are not working as expected because team is not using new nose and endplate either.
Whole updates are part of a new aero design solution - direction.
You can not pick one an plug it into the car.
Floor is the central piece!
If the car's floor is broken it is useless to have other updates on the car.

Stroll never used the new package, even in fp1. Am I right?

Looks like Massa is using the bottom FW from the image below!
My guess they are trying different aero solution for this track.

So stroll has not broken its new floor but still choose to run the old floor, that's correlation issue rather than floor damage

Do not jump the conclusions :)

Massa interview on Sky F1 HD:

- the balance of the car in high speed corners is/was screwed in fp1 and fp2. The team will try to fix it for tomorrow.
- he broke the floor in fp1 and they had to take out the new updates.
- the engineers are happy with the "numbers" seen with the new updates.
- they will put them back tomorrow (after they will fix the floor tonight).

O I c. But then y stroll didn't try the new spec! So strange! They do have at least one set according to the above photos. Really can't understand.
It is good to hear that the updates work!

Stroll is kept with a "reference" aero package!
The goal is to keep Stroll "not confused" by different new aero bits! :)

Massa is the one that "validate" new aero updates for Williams.

That is easy to understand if stroll used the old spec first for reference in fp1, but should then try new spec in fp2, otherwise stroll will have no choice but just copying massa' s setup in fp3. Seldom to get a reference in this way imo.

Can c that the car is very pushy at high speed corners, balance is not right!

I really do hope that the package works and they use it. I suspect they do not want a repeat of last year's new nose/front wing debacle where Massa declared the car "undrivable" despite the promise of massive gains in the wind tunnel, when they first tested it and then never really maximized its potential until many races later.

Huge shock. Will 2016 repeat itself (terrible form in the 2nd half of the season)?

I dont know whats wrong with the car. Long runs looking very good but one lap pace is a disaster

According to Massa it's tire warmup.
