New rumor: Honda doesn't want Alonso in 2018, instead they rather spend the money on engine development. They are tired of his complaining.
1- Rumours about drivers moves for next season go into the silly season thread

2- It was Honda the first interested on signing in Alonso, so I simply can´t believe they´ve now changed their opinion when they´ve not provided a competitive PU yet in three seasons, and first they can be somewhat competitive they´re going to get rid of Alonso? Unlikely

3- Japaneese people is proud, but fair. I think if they´re upset because of Alonso´s complains, it´s because he´s right and they´ve done a poor job up to date, so they´re first interested on providing a competitive PU to Alonso so they can prove (to Alonso and the whole world) those were only teethering problems of a very good PU.

To me that sort of articles/rumours usually are the interpretation of a western journalist/fan who took current situation and some quote out of context to get some click on the article/twit of this week

The long runs look reasonable, Ferrari Mercedes and Red Bull are the only ones dipping into the 9s. Alonso and Vandoorne are in the mid to low 10s, which is slightly faster than the other midfielders. Still not good enough, they need just over half a second to join the top group.

It's a pretty tall ask to get .3 from both engine and chassis, so unless Honda has another big upgrade I don't see it happening.

Let's not forget this is a short lap so the gap will obviously be smaller. I doubt they'll be as close next weekend, I'll be very pleasantly surprised if they manage q3, although it's supposed to be similar conditions to last year, and I hope Alonso doesn't spin into the gravel again.

I've read that McLaren are usually fast in practice because they have one of the best simulators. Might be a lot of crap. Looking forward to qualy though, but mostly hoping that there is reliability and less fuel saving with this new engine. Not read anything that says this new engine is less thirsty...

They lost .5 from p3 to q2 in Canada relative to the leaders. However I don't think they're going to be massively quicker. I think pole will be a second faster than the best p2 time.

Its a fuel limited formula, if the new PU makes more power, its a given that fuel consumption will improve.

Sorry, but Spain is not an engine dominant circuit.

Sorry, but it's only Friday.
Sorry, did you see the long run simulation times? McLaren clearly not fighting Sauber anymore.

Seriously, why can't people just give Honda a little credit for picking themselves up from the floor after the beating they got in the first few races.

Austria confirms improvements to Honda - back to 2016 levels

http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... &sandbox=1

In the morning Stoffel Vandoorne ended with a loss of 1.3 seconds seventh and Fernando Alonso ninth, in the afternoon the Spaniard improved to eighth place. Behind the fastest Lewis Hamilton, he lagged for 1.25 seconds after losing 10 km/h and Vandoorne at only 6 km/h on the fastest cars.

Hasegawa said in Baku that the improvement was over 3 tenths of a second per lap, equivalent to almost 40 horses. McLaren, however, needs a lot more to fight the podium - this way Honda has only reached the last level of performance after starting this season with a 120-horsepower deficit.

The Upgrade seems to be ok and hopefully the beginning to Honda finally getting good, but there is still a long way to go.
