Looking forward to these engine upgrades from Merc and Ferrari. Here is how it stands pool wise going into the weekend.Anyone got any details of which parts will be upgraded for Silverstone?

I keep hearing about a Meredes engine upgrade... strange that i have seen no mention of it from Mercedes or any journalist..
Where can i find proof of this engine upgrade?

I'm impressed by the Spec 3 engine in the McHonda... as long as it actually survives to race day. Tracks like Silverstone have shown up the weak point of the car (raw power), so to come in at 8th and 10th in first practise is encouraging. Hopefully that will translate to some decent pace on the day.

-Both Mercedes and Ferrari are using new ICE for both of their cars.
-Both Mercedes have a new Turbo Charger, whereas only Kimi is getting a new TC as Vettel has already used 4.
-Both Mercedes have a new MGU-H, whereas only Kimi is getting a new MGU-H as Vettel has already used 3.
-Both Mercedes have a new MGU-K as well. Though both Ferraris have used 2 MGU-K, they don't seem to have an upgrade on this front.

As for FP1, on the long runs, Mercedes on Softs seems be doing better pace than Ferrari on Super Softs. Generally, Ferrari seem to come back close in FP2. So, it remains to be seen if that would be the case OR the upgrades are working differently for different teams.

It's definitely a step forward, but don't forget that they ran the supersofts, so they'll get easily jumped by both Williams and Force Indias when they put SS on.

Fair point. But then this is only practise... and two more sessions to go, with tweaking etc. I'm hopeful that McLaren will hold their own.

2016 record has already been broken with 1:29.1 . On average over the last few years FP1 -> Q3 improvement has been around 2.5s, so something in the mid 1.26 range for pole position I'd say.

Thanks for this it will be interesting to see how much more time that the upgraded Turbo and MGU-H is worth on Kimi's car compared to Seb on the old spec.
