how is sunlight going to be direct on them in a frigging tight f1 cockpit. at the worst, they'll put a small lip on the top and add an anti-reflective layer on top of it, really not an issue.
So now you have added a lip above each screen, dont forget the 2 cameras as well, and the wiring from each camera. Plus any fitting for each screen plus the cameras will need some housing so they dont get wet or dirty.

So there is probably a similar weight (being generous to the camera, screens ect ect) and all that for a small screen.

Using a phone, tablet, laptop, tv outside is crap, even if you use anti glare screens ect, it's way off a mirror. So I just don't see why a screen would be beneficial. And where would they put 2 screens on the Williams ? A mirror is perfectly places to take a last look as you are turning into a corner.

i'll repeat this question.

why does Formula E get a 'aeroscreen'/canopy,
and for F1, it's not possible, and they get a Halo?

FE is a concept, not sure if they are going to use it.

Let us wait a few months and see what Indy Car is going to use. They have made the initial modifications such as moving the air intake from the roll hoop to the side pod. They have stated that aeroscreen will be used, but let us see.

The halo is ugly and it's approval was shoved down the teams and drivers throats. The drivers don't want the halo or the screen. Motorsport is dangerous and the drivers accept it. We see in other motorsports the safer the cars keep getting the more the drivers take too many chances. We don't want to lose drivers and I'm all for safety but motor racing is becoming too controlled.

A quick question, if the Halo was on Senna's Mclaren in 91. Woukd he have got out his car when he crashed in Mexico ?
Look how hard it was to get out, remembering that the Halo wont sit on top of the gravel, it will probably sink.

Very good point. From watching the video it looks like gravel traps shaped like that would probably cause a problem for drivers trying to wriggle free from 2017 cars as well. However the more we complain about gravel traps, the higher the likelihood of the FIA filling them all in with tarmac. :?

There's so many things that make having a halo more dangerous but the FIA won't listen. How can they justify having something that creates more problems than it solves. Imagine a spring like the one that hit massa bouncing with an upwards trajectory and it deflects of the halo and flies into the cockpit and into the path of the driver. How will they word that if the halo was the cause of the injury and had it not been there the shrapnel would have continued on its trajectory away from the driver?

How the hell would a driver even get out with it being just wider than a helmet?

I guess it could have a pivot just beyond the steering wheel towards the front so the whole thing pivots up and away with the sponge headrest attached to it.

But that means it wont come off when its upside-down.

It is removable, and has been tested. no reports were made of f1 drivers being trapped in the car since the testing of the device and now having to shower inside the car.
there is no problem with leaving except for a longer time than before. the only problem is that it looks like a carbon turd.

Looks like it is attached to the head restraint that failed for Mercedes in Baku and pivots up from the nose. Trapped if your upside down though, explosive fixings wouldn't help either in most accidents​ when trapped. The FIA stated stewards would be trained to flip F1 cars upright... Yeah ok.

Funnily enough, 'bout 3/4's of a century ago..
a 'Halo' type centre-bar windscreen design was featured by the original P-47 'razorback' fighter plane..

& thus.. was duly replaced.. by a clearview type 'borrowed' from the British Typhoon..
