VAN downgraded to "Spec 3.5":
https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/13142 ... ty-for-spa

I guess we won't see spec 4 in Monza :(. Looks like it still needs some fixing before new solutions can be introduced.
Looks like they are piggybacking extra engines to avoid future penalties...like w have seen last year.
"Problem" is just an excuse.
No, otherwise they would have stockpiled with a spec 3.6 not gone back to the spec 3.5 again
They only had one 3.6 available. Hence why Alonso didn't even have it.

Battery problems. Alonso said he lost 0.6 sg and could be in Q3 without problems.

There was some debris in his car that lost him a chunk of time in Q1 team cleaned it out and he improved by 7 tenths in Q2. And then we all know what happened in the last run. Shame but let's hope for some rain tomorrow not just for our team but just so we don't get a merc procession.

Well, considering Spa is one of the most power-hungry circuits on the calendar, that's progress I guess? Power wise I mean, definitely not reliability wise.

I just hope that after this whole spec 3 debacle people will learn not to hype updates from Honda again. Over the last three years none of the updates have met there own targets so it's surprising to see people fall into that trap consistently.

Not really, having to rely on a really good tow from your teammate who also has to sacrifice his own effort to scrape into the top ten isn't what I'd call a success. Alonso said they have an agreement that he will do it to help vandoorne do the same in Monza since roles will be reversed. Let's hope vandoorne's engine doesn't do the same next week.

The upgrade was not to deliver more power. Hasegawa already said it

Honda and Mclaren are married until 2021(unless Honda lets them get out of contract with no penalties).

McLaren can only get out by buying out Honda(will not happen.....too much cash needed and FIA will not allow it unless Honda has another team).
or
RB and McLaren switch(RB will not do that until 2019 or when PU performance is fixed).
Stop pretending you've seen the contract and don't be so naive to think there won't be stipulations about performance in it.
They'll be partnered next year. It was made certain when Toro Rosso talks collapsed. That interview Hasegawa even said it was discussions with no formal talk occurring. FIA want Honda in F1. If McLaren cancel the contract it will remove Honda. Doesn't take a genius to figure out unless there's a second team for Honda to supply, their future is pretty much already written.
Not to mention that it would make other companies think twice about joining.

So if McLaren don't stay with Honda you will just have a quiet year?

Did you watch the Q ? Palmer made it into Q3 but the PU didn't. Odds are good Alo starts 10th with his choice of tires.

Palmer ...It was gearbox oil pressure problem which will be a penalty if he has to change it.
