Past performance are a much better indication than simply assuming certainties that arent.
For example assuming McLaren failed to be a supposed certain "4th" because of Honda is amusing considering McLaren failed to even achieve that with by far the best and most consistent engine in their last year before that switch.
Also, to be fair here: while we might hate Ron for brokering that deal with Honda (those that do), who is to say the alternative was any better at the time? Do we know for a certainty that Mercedes would have been willing to continue to supply McLaren beyond 2014? Again: The sponsorship with Vodafone had ended. Brokering the deal with Honda meant continuiety, money flowing etc. To not have done that, with the key staff they lost to mainly Mercedes, do you think McLaren would have remained that high budget team they still are? I find that rather doubtful.
