Past performance are a much better indication than simply assuming certainties that arent.

For example assuming McLaren failed to be a supposed certain "4th" because of Honda is amusing considering McLaren failed to even achieve that with by far the best and most consistent engine in their last year before that switch.

Also, to be fair here: while we might hate Ron for brokering that deal with Honda (those that do), who is to say the alternative was any better at the time? Do we know for a certainty that Mercedes would have been willing to continue to supply McLaren beyond 2014? Again: The sponsorship with Vodafone had ended. Brokering the deal with Honda meant continuiety, money flowing etc. To not have done that, with the key staff they lost to mainly Mercedes, do you think McLaren would have remained that high budget team they still are? I find that rather doubtful.

There is no competition between Mclaren and Redbull chassis, they are and will be miles behind next year. Infact Renault will be a tough competition due better engine integration and few extra maps besides they have similar design philosophy.

Newey is God level compared to Prodromou who is just a mere aero chief and not a designer. Have been a Mclaren fan but feel like its time to jump off the sinking ship.

Wut? Peter Prod was the aero chief for all RBR WCC/WDC cars.He has a proven track record. People give Newey way too much credit sometimes. What does a "mere aero chief" and "not a designer" even mean? LOL sigh.

Please check Newey's record pre Red Bull, the man has been in demand since the nineties. Peter on the other hand has always been under Newey's shadow.
Aero is only one of many factors that add to the equation of winning formula. One mans ophinion, Newey has shown design flexibility in his cars unlike Peter who to be fair is only starting to grow into his new role and has lot to learn and prove.

To be fair on Renault since 2000 they have provided an engine to win the drivers championship the same amount of times as Mercedes. 1 less than Ferrari who haven't had a customer team win a championship, and I'm being fair on Ferrari by starting from 2000!

I think you mistaken them hating you for them hating Mclaren or Honda. Not he same. Your comments are often pure venom and bring out the worst in people.

This deal isn't as black and white as you make it out to be.

Not sure if it is "Mclaren hate" or "Honda nostalgia"..or both. Consider Alonso's temper as well.
Most of the technical team went with Mercedes anyway, so maybe old Mclaren fans now feel more identified with that team.

Anyway, I really wonder about the effects of this swap. I reckon maybe they can be in a very similar position to Renault works team next year. I just hope it's not a situation like in 2013, in which the suspension design was so catastrophic, we still see the effects of it today.

Probably a good move for both if true. It will save Honda about $160 million not including the free PU's. It will be interesting if anyone steps up to cover that gap or if McLaren is going to run a much leaner budget compared to this year.

Do you think Honda will stop at 3.75? Would kinda tarnish their reputation, what little they have left to not complete the upgrade. Besides it might be dejavu again if they think the new spec will bolt on without any issues next year.
Question is what will Honda do with the surplus $$$?
