Is Ron saying that BMW cannot maintain the lead in the championship, or
BMW cant be better than Mclaren?

Welcome to F1technical CHT.

Let me tell you, this thread doesn't make much sense.

BMW can't win the championship, yet. That's a fact.
What Ron said was, in other words, that BMW's lead in the championship is a reflection of McLaren's lack of pace in the last race, or Ferrari's problems in Australia/Malaysia.
He needed to punch somebody to release the stress of his team's last failure.
It's just that. A comment not worth of starting a thread, as I said before.
"I've already altered the deal, pray I don't alter it any further" -Darth Vader to Lando Calrissian. The Empire Strikes Back.
"Progress is not always made by reasonable men." (McLaren Racing).
"We have optimised the lateral optical interface of the building." (Translation: "My factory has a lot of windows.") Ron Dennis.-

I don't really see any problem with Ron Dennis' comments. He's not exactly slating te BMW team is he. When asked about if he sees them as a WCC threat he says "No, when we get to the european races we'll see the rate of development." etc etc etc,

All he's saying is that he doesn't believe BMW have the recources to match Mclaren and Ferrari in terms of development over the course of a season. How knows he might be right.

Conversely he could be very wrong. Why don't we just wait an see, insted of scrutinising EVERY comment that comes out of Ron Dennis' mouth, trying as hard as we can to look at them in the most negative light possible?!

Mario Theissen had a nice way to comment when the press asked him what he felt about Ron's comments.

Its German so I translate the relevant detail:

Theissen:
Mentioning the BMW Sauber F1 team seems to trigger an allergic reflex with Ron Dennis. I have enjoyed his comments (smirking). Allready after qualifying he said "In the race the BMWs will be no opposition for us". Somehow he was right about that.
I think for a German Mario has a pretty good sense of humor.

One rule that all sportsmen (should) know is that when being interviewed, never say anything in absolutes. Give your opinion as if it is an opinion, then no matter what happens you can't have your foot in your mouth at the end of the year.
Before I do anything I ask myself “Would an idiot do that?” And if the answer is yes, I do not do that thing. - Dwight Schrute
