Can they hold 4th next year?

It should be a close fight with McLaren and Renault. Williams could also improve, but their driver line-up is nothing like the quality of McLaren, Renault or Force India.

I think Renault is poised for the biggest improvement. I think FI will be fighting with them for 4th. Williams doesn't look like they are in a position to improve much.

Is FI going to change their name?

Undecided still.

Force One is as good as off the table, it would bring too much conflict in the abbrevation (FO or F1).

They want to maintain the legacy and memory of it essentially being 'Force India' but at the same time also open up sponsor possibilities and attraction by ditching 'india' which consciously or unconconsciously blocks interest from potential (interesting) sponsors or attention.

They stated they can simply keep the name, they're entered for 2018 as Force India anyway.

I dont think they will have a hope of beating Renault next year. Not now Renault have 2 decent drivers.

Also the Renault is now faster than the Force India for sure and next year will get even stronger. With Mclaren going to Renault PU's i feel the best Force India can do is 6th. That could be taken from them by a Paddy Lowe Williams or a Honda powered Toro Rosso.

You can't count out Paddy Lowe, the man has made some winners.

That car needs a pretty big turn around in design direction. I'm still skeptical that it'll happen over one winter, but you are right.

I'm not expecting wins from Williams, but I am expecting them to give Force India more of a challenge. The rate of development the last 3 years has been fantastic, I hope Force India continues their strong development. They really are the best independent team at the moment.

why? it still worked pretty awesome this season.
Force india is known for not going insane on development rate during the season but working hard during the winter.

"Deputy team principal Bob Fernley praised Force India's efforts, particularly as it managed to outscore Renault, Williams and McLaren combined.

"Coming in to this season, we were concerned about Renault, Williams and McLaren," Fernley told Autosport.

"The underlying strength of the result is demonstrated in that we have outscored all three of them put together, which is remarkable.

Credit to everybody. It's not just what we do here, it's also what is going on at the factory. It's a team effort. That's the difference between where we are and where others are sometimes.

"We're a racing team. Reliability is the key. I think we have the second most reliable record behind Mercedes.

"It's not just to do with the power unit. Its a contributor but it's also about the chassis and how the race team is working."

The naysayers come and go as usual, hope they eat their words for the 2018 season also. =D>
