McLaren MCL33

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Guess I should have posted this in the MCL33 speculation thread, not the W09:

I suspect now that they saw RB radiators and sidepods and IF those work, Mclaren might target those as part of major update usualy at the start of European season in Barcelona, it was expected that Mclaren goes little bit on the safe side in this area whit new PU manufacturer.
MCL33 has much smaller airbox opening than RB14 so I would guess they need more airflow through the sidepods.

Seems there will be an 'S' duct according to SomersF1. http://www.somersf1.co.uk/2018/02/mclar ... lysis.html

Image
The launch car shows a nose design reminiscent of last years appendage, featuring elongated front wing pillars with three slots that not only help to control, shape and harness the Y250 vortex alongside but also pull airflow around the front wings neutral central section. The team have utilised an 'S' duct for a number of seasons now and it's not the first time that the launch car has been devoid of the device but MCL33 seems not to feature one, or doesn't it?

Having watched the teams 3D animation on Twitter it's clear to see the 'S' duct outlet panelling (inset) which suggests to me that we'll see it return, perhaps in a more aggressive format, during testing or as part of the large update package they've suggested will be available for the Australian GP.

Mounting point for monkey seat (if we can call it still like that, maybe restricted monkey seat because of new regulations)

Could someone explain what the benefits are from running your suspension so high?

I look forward to some more detailed photos to see how they are getting away with those slots along the floor by the sidepods...

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

It effectively makes the entire floor into a diffusor, but it is tough to seal out tyre squirt.
