Will Heikki race in Turkey?

Post

He got a mighty big bang on the head (27g) that left him unconcious. In the past drivers had to skip a race under such conditions. it was explained that the brain doesn't take such punishments well if it reoccurs in too short a time period. several drivers have been grounded for that including Ralf after his Indy shunts. there is a big difference to Kubica's shunt in Canada last year. the Cube rubbed off all the speed and hit the barriers only at very shallow angles. Heikki really hit this tyre wall head on and was stopped from 200 km/h in the length of two meters or in one tenth of a second. so I wonder what the medical experts think?

Recall however that the Canadian GP and the USGP were only a week apart. Heikki will not have to race again for two weeks. So, maybe that will be enough time for him to recover.

The F1 medical team - used to be Sid Watkins, now it's Gary Hartstein MD I believe - will decide if he's fit to race...Heikki won't race if they say no, but if they say yes he will, he's a racer and you generally can't stop them!
ITV-F1.COM

"McLaren said Kovalainen will relax in Spain for the next few days before returning home to start a light training programme.

He will then need to pass the mandatory FIA medical inspection in order to compete in the Turkish GP on May 11."

I know that he will try to race. The question was will the doctor let him. I don't think that two weeks will be sufficient in a crash were he had a blackout.

FIA:
"Following a medical examination this morning by the FIA medical delegate, Professor Jean-Charles Piette, and the chief medical officer of the event, Dr Cem Boneval, Heikki Kovalainen has been cleared to race in the 2008 Turkish Grand Prix."
I'm glad he is ok and fit to race. This was obviously looking more serious than it was in reality.
