Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Hartley says the Honda unit has more power than last years Renault.

If so... I don't know if to laugh or cry for McLaren.

Of course the 2018 Renault will have more power than last year. But its still a bit crazy if true and not just PR.
Actually the 2018 Renault doesn't have more power than last year...

Well,

Brendon only got the STR seat when they already had severe engine problems (Parts used up) so he might not have the complete bench mark view, but If true it is encouraging news for Honda/STR

not surprised really... but variability and time it can run on more consistent deployment.... that's were they are behind most likely..

The sound...

Are they firing only three and then switching to the other three and again and again? Trying to avoid overheating? It just seems to be at the verge of dying, and I tend to love it, but it gives me a strong feeling of anxiety, the urge to switch it off.

I love it! The sound, the color, the team, even the under-dog drivers.

This could be the best fairy-tale story of 2018.

I'm guessing it's cylinder cut?

Wow. I know nothing compared to some on this forum, but even I can say that sounds spectacularly rough. Something pretty nuts going on there, that's about the depth of my knowledge :-) If it's extreme cylinder deactivation, it seems surprising to me to do so at idle, is it worth the bother ? Is it mechanically sympathetic ? Guess so, else they wouldn't do it. Some weird firing order / crank ?

I'm quickly becoming a STR-Honda fanboi.

If they get on the podium this year, the press is going to turn itself inside-out.

I love the sound, but as I love it, also it worry me the mechanical stress that roughness is creating in the whole package. I´m a complete ignorant in this matter but my logic tells me the Honda components needs to be more robust = weight in order to support all those vibrations.
