Aston Martin Red Bull Racing TAG Heuer RB14

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It was brought in to stop teams using certain parts to directly generate downforce.
It wasn't - it was brought in to stop double diffusers. by not allowing you to see bodywork through any cut in the floor, you could no longer put a top on the second diffuser.
No, it was introduced much earlier.
FIA Technical regulations'1994 wrote:Between the rear edge of the complete front wheels and the front edge

directly beneath the car must lie on one plane. All these parts must
produce a uniform, solid, hard, rigid (no degree of freedom in relation
to the body/chassis unit), impervious surface, under all circumstances.
The periphery of the surface formed by these parts may be curved
upwards with a maximum radius of 5cm.
Probably since 1983, when flat floor rules were introduced.

To avoid double diffuser I think they introduced a rule which requires to have a single continuous line on the rear floor with intersections along the car or something like that. Which of course limits the possibility to make any opening because it would create a discontinuity

aaah, plus for you! so they tested different versions of the front wing and the "z wing" side deflectors with extensive aero rakes both on the body in front of the rear wheel and below and behind the front wing. they made 5 separate test runs this morning so I hope a lot of information was gained on how they interact.

Hmm, this is very interesting... It seems the teams are still confused on how to best utilize the Y250 Vortices

They ran this sort of flap layout last year.
