I'm still waiting TR to run some quali laps to see if honda pu hawe some horses

Seems like 4 seconds improvement, from last year (Race to Current Test), including around 1 to 1.5 seconds from the new surface itself, plus the advantage of cooler weather (which has generally accounted for 1 second from winter to summer in quali and around 4 tenths in race). That leaves with just 2 - 2.5 seconds performance improvement from the car in the last 12 months!

Hulk qualified with a time of 1m21.397 and started his race with 1m28.858 in last year's race. That is 7.4 seconds difference. If we extrapolate the same with his current starting stint of 1m24.7, he should theoritically qualify today with a time of 1m17.3xx with Softs!

Good stuff. Goes to show how fast the front-runners could go if they really were unleashing proper quali pace in these conditions - and therefore how any talk of 'ominous' this or 'scary' that are vastly premature.

The seem to be having cooling problems too, doesn't keep them from going still though!

Because McLaren doesn't really have issues, they're pretending because their simulations are so good that testing is just for the drivers to get a feel for the car.

In the first couple of days of the first week of testing Ferrari seemed to be planted quite well. It was told that them and RBR looked better than Mercedes which were a bit wiggly yet. However, towards the end of first week it kinda was the other way round between Mercedes and Ferrari.

Mercedes getting better with more laps and optimizing setup seems just to be a logical consequence of testing time. But how to interpret the decreasing stability of Ferrari? What could be the reason behind that?

That could be explained by fuel load, and the times reflect that.

Testing parameter changes with the measured effects would be my guess.

Need more heat in the front : do X,Y,Z

More in the rear? : A,B,C

Stuff like that. I imagine there are several other changes like torsion spring changes, ride height changes, camber changes that are simply defining the operating window. They aren't going to be racing in Barcelona but once this year, the teams need data to handle the unknowns of the other circuits on the fly.

ferrari is probably just experimenting with different setups and finding whats good and whats not....
on another note surprise surprise, mclaren so far is winning the golden raspberry award for most mileage
