Just like to point out that the renault engines are running detuned (reliability for testing i think), mercedes most likely knows this and can see this from the GPS traces, therefore the red bulls are most likely quicker than they appear.

They will need to run their engines at 100% during testing at some point otherwise they don't know whether it will work when they do. They need to be confident on how hard they can push it over the opening races.

re Alonso McLaren: the sound was a seizure of some kind: the engine was still running and it coasted into the escape road which almost for sure says gearbox not locked up, so with smoke (which was hard to see where it emanated from)was it turbo? do they have shrapnel protection on inlet?

On page 118 of this thread Squid has the video posted. And there is a good photo too just near Squids post, which shows the smoke, but hard to see where from.

AMuS reporting that all teams are burning more fuel than last year. Ferrari more than Mercedes, which is no surprise. According to them that's why Vettel was doing more lift and coast than Bottas in the race sim yesterday.
