GPToday:

Boullier
McLaren sporting director Eric Boullier said that the day's outcome showed that the team's "ambitious" approach to the 2018 season was showing promise, despite the reliability setbacks.
“We have an ambitious design around the car," he told reporters. "You can see that the car is a little bit different from the other Renault-engined cars.

"We have to be ambitious. And to be ambitious you have to take risks," he added. "We have not lost our capability of designing fast cars and I hope you will see it on track soon.

"We had only minor issues which were all different," he insisted. "But I think that was because we didn’t do a good job enough to prepare the car.

"A good rebuild of the car for Australia will help us to fix a few issues," Boullier predicted.

Still positive in my view.

Not only is there a large upgrade for Mclaren at race one, but we dont know yet if any of the other cars are going to fall foul of the regs and have to lose something.
The car seems well enough when it running, my fear is minor mishaps ruining what could otherwise be a decent race.
Well we can only wait now and hope they are working through the list they must have made this week.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

F1 metrics:

The one representative stint on mediums occurred during a race simulation by Vandoorne, and it would suggest McLaren have pace comparable to Renault, around 1.0-1.4 seconds slower than Ferrari

Interesting, most pundits however seem to think that Renault are likely the 4th placed team

So i finnaly find out about Alosno fast laps....6 lap stint, last one about 0.250 faster after sector 2 then deleted.

Also the fast lap from Magnusen on SS was a 2 lap stint.

He wasn't running on fumes then. What lap nbr did he do the 17.9 & 17.7? All I can say is, things may not be as they seem.

So possibly on track for a 17.4 on that 6th lap?

Something like that, hoping that big aero update puts Mclaren in clear 4th for AUS, and then hunt down top 3 during season.

Adjusted by who? Did all the teams sit down and with whoever adjusted it and give raw data, engine modes, fuel loads etc?

I normally don't mind Gary Anderson's nonsense, but this is ridiculous if he's trying to pass this as a pecking order. Adjusted laptimes, sure, but adjusted performance? Bye bye that last shred of credibility. #-o
