Liberty – oxymoron of the day.
Liberty Media, the questionable “owners” of the commercial side of F1, also own the Atlanta Braves baseball team garnished with cheerleaders ad libertatem.
So what gives? Is this corporate cognitive dissonance: being less of a condition and more of a requirement.
Good to see Mr. Wolff put some much needed pressure on Liberty as well.
When one hears this kind of talk, you can be guaranteed they will be a dud: “alignment on the overall broad goals, but we have to find the right compromises as we work through the details.”
Then Carey used smooch the analyst speak “a tremendous franchise that has not been achieving its potential”.
When you hear this, knowing the case with their baseball team: “we feel this custom does not resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern day societal norms” the hypocrisy is all too apparent.
This goes to Liberty's honesty and trustworthiness and double standards and, and, and:
“It has emerged that Formula One’s owner, Liberty Media Corp, was questioned by the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) in August last year over fees it receives in connection with broadcasts of the auto racing series in Syria and Sudan”
And
““Sudan and Syria are designated by the Department of State as state sponsors of terrorism, and are subject to U.S. economic sanctions and export controls.” (

But that’s OK, apparently.
