Unfortunately I can't find my crystal ball to answer that question right now, but my guess is that there will be some updates.

Yes, all teams do. They also announced a Australian aero package at the beginning of winter testing.

Like most teams, they will bring updates to AUS. But the scope of updates from Mclaren is expected to be more significant than usual and compared to other teams. I read somewhere same applies to Force India.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Mclaren's reason is they just put a fast basic package together that would work with the change to the the Renault engine and then actual 'optimised' designs won't be ready until Melbourne at the earliest (don't expect the full package then either, sounds like there's more in the pipeline) simply due to leadtimes.
Doesn't really hold for Force India unless they made some mistakes earlier on.

They really don't need the Aero package before China (race 3). Australia is high downforce but ZERO high speed corners. Bahrain is Medium downforce. China has that big 360 Degree high speed curve after the start finish straight and a couple of others.

What were people’s thoughts with regards to how the car looked in testing- did it look basic or ‘threadbare’ in any way?

I know the potential for an S-Duct grabbed attention but was there any other areas where you looked and thought ‘yep- definitely more to come there’?

I was a little surprised to see them with the wider nose (relatively) compared with competitors, though only Mercedes seem to have been able to go sleek in that regard.

Kind of wished they just turned and performed flawlessly, than getting hopes up with this press release. If they do have issues, they'll just get slayed more, having stated it 's all fixed before it.

Sidepods are relatively large as the main thing.

well, but less downforce means less downforce at any speed and same comes for drag. so imho it is still very crucial to get it at first race.

I've been to the Aus GP many times, and it's painfully obvious who has good down force and who doesn't through 11 and 12.

If a Team doesn't have it there in the first race, I guess they can work on it throughout the season, but it's a great indicator of who's on top of things and who's not 😉

I don't remember any high speed corners at Bahrain either.
I mean obviously good areo helps everywhere to a certain degree but it's not the hammer at Australia. #1 there is POWER. #2 Traction out of slow corners #3 STABILITY under Braking.

Remember the last year McLaren had Merc power(2014). McLaren Finished 2nd and 3ird there and had horrible aero. Don't think they finished in the top 10 again until Monoco and then Canada (again non Aero tracks) .
